Front door glass color change?

Hey guys, I am looking to tint my front windows, so I thought It would be easier to pick up OEM glass off of craigslist and tint them, then install them.

I bought a pair of OEM TOYOTA glass on CL and brand is "NIPPON"
My glass is OEM TOYOTA and the brand is "ASAHI"

My glass looks much greener and the Nippon glass that I bought looks much 'golder'

anyone else seen this?????

My First question is, is the glass I bought Original or is it a replacement.

My second question is what years came with Nippon (if it is original) and what years came with asahi. my 97 has asahi.

third will it be a noticeable difference if I put 35% ceramic tint on top of the Nippon glass or should I look for a pair of greener asahi windows?

(will you be able to see the gold colour?)

refer to my build thread. i made a youtube doing exactly this...

however toyota glass has the word "toyota" on the glass.... and ASAHI

i bought used 4runner glass from a yard, tinted them and then installed them..


that green stuff does not sound ideal for making the front match with the rear..

The auto industry uses a few different colors of glass. For some car manufacturers, the color of glass could depend on the car color, interior color, or package available of that particular model. Green, bronze, grey and blue glass are the most common.

It's very possible that the bronze colored glass you bought is in fact an OEM glass. Since it has the TOYOTA etching, it likely is.

I don't have an answer for your 2nd question. Both could've been OEM suppliers simultaneously or at different times.

3rd question... There will be a noticeable difference. The bronze or green coloring will still be noticeable even with window tint on, especially if it's used along side the other color in the same vehicle.

My 97 Limited came with Brown glass. Most of the glass used by auto-glass repair shops seem to use green glass.

When my front windshield needed to be replaced a few years ago I was able to get brown glass but it took a few more phone calls and a bit of extra cash. In the end I believe I paid $140 installed.

If the glass shop knows what they are doing and has a reputable supplier, they can get the correct color glass for the vehicle.
