Front hub lug change / conversion

Has anyone ever changed their front hub lug nut pattern to 5 x 5.5? I am thinking I might do this so it matches my other off road toys and also matches the majority of the group of guys I go out with who have full size fords or broncos.

Thinking re drill the stock hub if possible, or a very small adapter, or if the piece the stock lugs are on in the hub is removable just make that piece and replace it.

I want to probably go 5x5.5 with 5/8 studs too.

Damn, maybe a thin as possible adapter is best.

I want to put a Ford 9” rear end in my truck to at some point so changing all 4 corners would be the plan.

Seems like an odd choice to go with that bolt pattern. One thing you may want to think about is the backspace on those old 5x5.5 wheels. A lot of them are super aggressive, which on these trucks increases scrub radius and gets your tires into the firewall really quick. Axles are available for a 9" to convert to the matching 6x5.5 bolt pattern and 6x5.5 is about the most common bolt pattern for trucks having been around 70 years or more at this point.

At the point that you're swapping in an axle for off-road capability, you'll be pushing the limits of the stock IFS components as well, so you may get to the point where a solid axle swap on the front makes more sense than trying to stay stock anyway.

looks like I am going to trade my 5 x 5.5 hubs for 6 x 5.5 stuff. better and easier all the way around. I wont have to adapt and wont be able to swap wheels with other project but I think this is a better solution anyways.

I would grab a set of adapters and just bring them with you. That way if you need to use one of your friends spares, you just bolt the adapter on first, and go. Saves you from needing to bring 2 spares or permanently changing lug patterns.
