Front Runner Accessories

Just about to purchase a Front Runner Slimline II full length roof rack and was wondering if there were any “Must Have” accessories, ie.. stactchets, O-rings, Wolf Pack boxes, etc that I should definitely get? Also if there are accessories that I should not purchase from them that I can purchase elsewhere for less or better quality please let me know.

I think the tie down rings and some stratchits.

I believe you can make your own tie down rings, I can’t find the post for some reason though.

I like the stratchits and wolf packs. Can never have too many of those.

10 of these with some 8mm bolts. I use them up top as stops and usually on the underside for tie-downs.

i like the tie down rings. sure you could get them cheaper or make your own but they aren't terribly expensive. $10/pair. they match the rack and will get used a lot. i would have gotten their wolf pack boxes but i already had some boxes that i tie down.
i have the quick release tent mounts too
i wouldn't mind getting their awning mounts but i just use some L brackets for now

i would buy more stuff if their shipping wasn't so expensive.

Anybody know if anyone has made there own ‘O’-rings? If so can you post the parts I would need?

How do you like the RTT QR mounts? Those are next on my list to mount under my LFD rack.

[MENTION=206541]unsub1[/MENTION] i like them a lot. makes loading the tent so much easier. it took a bit to get them all lined up but once you have it all marked and ready you are set. drop tent on top and slide it in. i had a gobi rack before and had to bolt cross bars down, it was such a pain getting my hand under there. no scratched up knuckles with these. i was surprised how easily the tent slides in, i was expecting it to be a little snugger.

cons: they are noisy when a tent is not loaded. they jangle around quite a bit. i tried using zip ties but didnt help. i removed them for winter.
they get dinged up pretty easily. on mine the powder coating is chipping pretty bad just from one summer.
your tent sits up a little higher. i dont notice any extra road noise but there is a bigger gap.

Buy the M8 ring nuts from amazon at a much, much lower price and then go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy the M8 bolts and nylon washers. you can make 10 for the cost of 2 from FR. I have 20 or so that I keep in the truck with 4 sets of stratchets and a couple of ratchet straps. Never know when you'll find something you need to strap to the roof and take home.

I also have the QR RTT mounts but haven't used them yet. Waiting on new crossbars and spring. Hi lift mount is also rad. The stock jack won't lift my truck so I need to keep it with me in case of a flat or other mishaps.

I bought some quick fists that I use to mount tools and stuff on the rack instead of buying the shovel mount and stuff. I use them to hold my shovel and axe on the top and haven't had a problem. I only have shovel / axe mounted when I'm hitting the trails but never had a problem driving to or from spot doing 75mph+ for 6+ hours.

i wrote FR about this, they do not suggest it. it would look cleaner and keep a lower profile but not support the weight

The two most useful that I have used, after the stratchits and tie down rings are the quick release RTT mounts (a gamechanger IMO with a RTT that needs to be taken on and off often like I had to) and the Maxtrax side mounts if you have recovery boards. The tent mounts as stated above have exceeded my expectations, although my tent is now mounted to my trailer. The Maxtrax mounts are great because if you have recovery boards they are not taking up space on your rack.

Fairing?

Has anyone installed a Front Runner fairing (or any other fairing) on the front of their slimline rack?

I have the stock wind deflector installed but it's quite a bit noisier than I expected it to be (even when not carrying anything on the rack), making me want to close the sunroof anytime I'm going more than like 20+mph....

I'm considering the FR fairing, but I can't find any picture of anyone anywhere that's ever installed one on a 4Runner + FR Slimline...

If anyone's out there... how do you like it? Did it improve wind noise / aerodynamics any? Have any pics?

The other thing holding me back is trying to determine if I can still get a light bar on there later down the road, on top the leading edge, with the fairing bolting to the bottom... Or do I give up on wind noise / the fairing, and put the light bar under or in front as so many do?

Yeah they call that the 'deflector' I think, and I have that installed too. I'm sure it would be even worse without that. I'm talking about the fairing you can buy and install separately. Should have made my link more obvious:

Are you guys using stratchits or bungee to tie down small objects? I like the stratchits and will be picking up a few pairs, but what works best for securing light weight and small stuff like a ground tent or a chair for example?
