Front Runner Rack Options

I ordered a new Front Runner Rack today and called the California office to ask them a couple questions before purchasing the rack. I found out they have two Rack options for the 5th gens that are not on the website. You guys may already know this so if this is old news let me know.

First they offer the standard 5' long rack that is listed on the website. It has 8 cross members. They also offer a 9 cross member rack that adds an additional 8" to the total rack length. This is what I ended up ordering. With tax and free shipping is was $998.68. I ordered it around noon today and I already got a notice that it shipped. I should be here by Friday.

The last option is a full length rack that has front support. The downside is you need to drill holes to mount the rack in the front most mounting positions. I did not ask the price of this one because I didn't want to drill holes in my 4runner.

I hope this info helps anyone looking to get their hands on a nice rack.

Thanks for the info. There have been threads about rack length here, with the consistent answer that Frontrunner would not produce a full length rack due to stability concerns. I am interested in the 8" longer rack, but I have a sunroof. Would that block part of the glass?

I actually stopped by there today and picked up some of their Wolfpack boxes. Cool showroom with nice guys. Really like their rack and accessories.

I don't know for sure. I should have it by friday and installed this weekend. I will post pics. I dont have a sunroof so I will measure from top of windshield to front of rack after it is installed.

I looked at the Front Runner racks and they look to be great construction and super customizable which I love. However I wanted full length rack and also did not want to drill holes so I went with the K9 rack. So far I am extremely pleased and I think a lot of the Front Runner accessories will work with the K9

Really looking forward to seeing your install though. Can't wait for pics

I just ordered a frontrunner last night, just the standard size, guess I should of called to see if they had other sizes. I'm looking to do an undermount LED Light like the Pelfleybilt truck

i was thinking frontrunner too, I do like my sunroof (requirement in southern california) from my understanding with frontrunner is that you could choose to not install the bars that would go over the sun roof and create an opening (unlike the K9 where the bars run front to back) - but then drilling into the front of my 4runner to mount is not in my future.

i do like how modular the accessories are for Frontrunner and K9 though. Makes me think a custom Gobi with similar crossbars as a Frontrunner would be the ultimate . . . hmmm

Looking forward to your instal!

The other two racks I was looking at were the k9 and the alloy arb. I actually like the looks of the arb the best but I think it is too tall for my needs and is $1300.00 shipped. The k9 was a little pricy for me too I think.

I will probably order some expodition rails for the front runner soon too. Probably just side rails.

interesting. I knew they had a short rack and were packaging a full length that to be drilled.... very interested in the mid length rack

On the mid-length rack, will you still be able to install a light bar on the rack and have it be useful or will it be too far back?

For the K9 rack I ordered I also had three options for rack length but I went with the longest one so that if I install a light bar down the road it will sit right where the roofline starts its downward slope into the windshield. I was worried any shorter and I wouldn't get great returns on a roof mounted bar

I was pretty set on doing the K9 once I get my Gobi sold but Spenny made a good point regarding the way each racks slats span. I think I'll go front runner so I have the option of using the sunroof.

I would bet the light cast from the light bar on the medium rack would still be partially blocked by the roof but not sure. I will post pics once I get it installed tomorrow night.

Wouldn't this negate any glare off of the hood? Assuming there is any; I've never seen a bar in action.

Got the Rack installed. Here are some pics. Install was pretty smooth. I found the powder coating in some of the channels were too thick I could not get the bolt to slide in. So I had to sand a couple bolts down a little and then they slid into place. The kit was alos missing two nuts but a quick run to lowes fixed that.

Looks good pauldavis can you measure what the highest point is from the vehicle?
