Front Runner Slimline II 3/4 Rack

It's a little bit louder not much the only time I really notice it is with a big cross wind which occurs every day here on the Texas coast. On the hwy at 75 mph with no cross winds it really doesn't add any extra wind noise that I notice. I have also tried several fairing set ups on this rack and the factory Front Runner fairing is definitely the quietest so far. My 4Runner doesn't have a sunroof and I really don't drive with my windows down so this probably makes a bit of difference as well. Any way hope this helps

update

So ive been driving without table or tent and no whistling just your typical humming noise because of the actual roof rack. I still want to fabricate or but some sort of flaring slanted at 45 degrees in black. Im sure it will help overall.

I am definitely going to add the table next so I guess I might get the whistle. I have since added the expo bar, awning and sand tracks on top and it some how seems have a lot less buzz. Now I only notice the wind noise off the side view mirrors? Maybe it's just my imagination :crazy: ...

Ive ordered the snowboard attachments for 2 snowboards. Ill let you know how it sounds and of course looks

Glad to see everyone is enjoying their Front Runner roof racks. When I got hired at EHEO I never had a roof rack on my FJ Cruiser and basically I had to make a choice. What roof rack did I like enough, or struck me hard enough to justify getting one since I had always been against roof racks on my Fj. I did my research and Front Runner had the best roof rack by far in my opinion as you can modify it any way you like. It kind of reminded me of playing with legos when I was younger as it had so many options compared to the rest out there. Add that to the fact that I could still fit in parking garages and I was sold. Ever since I got my Front Runner I haven't looked back, using it from camping equipment to moving furniture.

I'd agree. When they shipped mine it was missing literally 1 part. They shipped it next day air, for free as they knew I had a event to go sponsor. That and the way customer service handled me, even though I am a vendor, was still above and beyond.

Add that to the functionality of the rack itself and I am right there with you.. Front Runner is one if the best Outfitters I work with and I legitimately stand behind their products.

I have a question on assembly. I want to remove the shark fin and put a ham radio magnet antenna mount in the same spot. Can the rear-most slats be moved forward to allow the antenna to be placed there?

With the front runner racks you can build it how you want it. So if you want to have a gap between them that is entirely up to you.

I would say not so much. Each end of the slat goes into guide slots on the two outer frames on the roof rack. Essentially all the slats get sandwiches by the two outer frames. Now if you wanted to slide the slats back and forth while the roof rack is on the roof, it could be done by unfastening the two allen key bolts (1 on each end of each slat), wrapping a hammer into some cloth and slightly bumping the desired slat back or forth until it gets to its new position where the allen key bolts can be re-installed. However, if you wanted to take slat(s) completely out, partial dis assembly of the roof rack would be required.

Note: The distance between the two slats is equal to the width of a slat. so you can either have equal sized gaps equal to the width of the actual slats or a solid roof without any gaps. The holes for the allen keys to secure the slats are spaced exactly in that way.

Since it is at the last slat which is the one on the back it cannot be removed since it holds the corners on the rack. I honestly don't know where the hole in the roof for the antenna is I am sure someone could chime in. You could always gut the shark fin and run the wire out the back and mount the antenna to the rack which would be a lot sturdier than the roof. There also maybe enough room to mount it in between the slats already.

Thanks, Taco04. I have a magnet mount with I think a 6" base, so it'll definitely fit underneath the slats. Just wondering if it will contact the slats with the wind or movement. I did find a thread about removing the shark fin, so that helps as well.

Couldn't help but notice you had Front Runner Sand Lizard Rescue Trax on your roof rack. Have you had a chance to use them?

When I go camping, the areas I'm in are sandy.

I used them on a friends truck that was stuck in the high banks area on P.I.N.S. and they worked well. They are a bit flimsy so your not going to bridge anything with them but they do work for their intended purpose. I always carry them in my Tacoma aka the beach truck in case I get stuck and there is no one around to yank it out.

Question on this rack. I really really like the modularity of the system. Tons of accessories and they seem to be pretty reasonable from a price perspective. My issue is this:

I need to fit into parking garages. On a few I already hit my firestik and pucker up for the roof rack (no hits....yet). There are too many wheel/lift/tire combinations to get into so I'm looking for something specific. What is the *net* height add to the T4R over the factory rack of a 2010-2013 SR5/LTD?

Everyone publishes overall height but it's difficult to quantify what this actually adds to the vehicle. A net height add over the shark fin would probably be sufficient as it stays with removal of the factory rack and would be the highest point after a rack delete.

I checked mine and at the farthest point back of the rack centered behind the sharkfin it's about 4 3/4" but I will say 5" to be on the safe side.
