Front running lights to T/S

Just bought a 2011 4R Trail (got one helluva deal) and really like it, it's my second 4R and my '06 is going to my daughter since her 2000 CR-V with 190K is on it's last leg.

I digress.....
I rewired the fog lights so they're always "ON" as soon as you start the truck. Basically cut the white-gray band wire and fused it to B+ in the fuse block. No turning on switches or the like. I like the added visibility they give to other drivers.

But what bothers me about this 4R is the front running lights do not act as turn signals, only the DRL's in the bumper are T/S.
I see this as a safety hazard as traffic to the side of you may not see that you are turning/changing lanes.
Has anyone wired the DRL's and the T/S together? That is so then the running lights flash.
If so, did you do it inside or outside?

Welcome. Different idea. Not for everyone, but it's nice to see people try different things.

However, in regards to people next to you. I believe that's why Toyota gave us the turn signal in the mirrors.

I would love to see this mod done, for many reasons, including the one above & being able to swap my amber DRL to clear and still be legal in MA.
 
Welcome to the forum flash! We do have the wiring diagrams here on the forum.
I agree that would be nice .Might run into trouble as the blinker module is real touchy about resistances across the bulbs. I don't think anybody has got anything to work except 1156's for replacement turn/DRL bulbs that I know of.

Sounds like another wiring mod, if he chooses to accept ...... for.........

After all the madness with my DRL's, I'm not changing mine. I may look into it tonight though, as long as my Ant Army is behaving...
 
Yeh Antman, I've read your mods and I must say a very impressive list indeed.
You gave me the idea for the fog light mod but did it a little different.

Was thinking.......scary.....
I haven't looked at the wiring diagrams yet (providing me a link to those will get you a nice parting gift) but is the trailer circuit separate from the vehicle light circuit?
If so, maybe tying into the left/right signals on the trailer circuit in conjunction with the front running lights might do the trick.

Well, I tried to figure this out, but so far I'm stumped. It's easy to either light the bulbs to flash, or turn them off to flash, but this mod will require both functions to work.

In other words, parking lights on?- bulbs must turn off to flash. Parking lights off?- bulbs must turn on to flash- get it?

The DRL circuit is tricky, so I tried to figure this out without going there. I could get it to work, but it would take frankenstein wiring and my gut tells me there is a much much easier way. Back to the DRL's...

I really need to test the leads on the DRL connections (at the bulb) to see what they are doing. I suspect the system sends a positive signal to both contacts (when one is normally grounded) to turn the bulb "off" to flash. Not sure though. Once I figure that out, I can try to get something to work using the DRL circuit- maybe...

I know, there's a simple solution also, but to keep the Running Lights "on" when the DRL's are "off' is the quandary, that is once they are somehow wired together....once we figure that out, the flashing part will be easy.
Are we both stumped because the DRL's can go "off" via the H/L switch?

Remember, if it has tire's or tit's, you're gonna have trouble with it.
 
Hey fellas, now that the coffee has taken effect and I've purged my system of the V&T's (Vodka/Tonic's) from last night, my brain is starting to clear.

The light socket in the headlight housing for the "Running Lights", that is a single filament bulb.
Does anyone know if there is a light socket that will fit into that housing without any modification that supports a double filament bulb?
That way one wire can remain running lights, the other wire tied into your DRL's and of course the last wire ground.

Damnit Jim........
 
The DRL circuit doesn't function like standard parking lights/flashers, so it's not as simple as tapping into them.

I think this could work too...check it out.

Converts separate circuits for parking/turn signals to one circuit (one bulb for parking lights and turn signals). May require a little troubleshooting, but it's all in one package and ready to go.

And it's cheap.

has anyone modded the foglight switch to not just stay on all the time, but to come on as you please with the switch? so essentially i could run parking and fogs? it seems you've made it so your fogs are "always" on. i'd rather turn mine on and off as i please.. anyone do that yet? or have any leads to it?

Hey "Good Doctor" (aka Antman), have you done a mod for floor (drivers & passengers) lighting?

Why I'm asking is I looked through your impressive list and didn't see anything.
While I admit I'm working on my second V&T, I did look at your list twice but still nada.

Now would all 5th gen. 4R have at least a pigtail for the floor lighting even if they (toyota) don't put in a bulb assembly?

BTW, we have a nice blender that the wifey got from her grandmother back in '79 as a "parting gift'.

Yeah, I have footwell lights. I think I tapped into a purple wire down in the kickpanel- probably the first week I owned it. I picked up some light sockets at Autozone, and the mounting holes are already there, but no wiring...

Still need to do it the "right" way- they only come on when the drivers door is opened...

We all have skeletons in our closets pal!:lmao:
