Front Upper Strut Mount, Inner Nut

Any tips for removing this nut? Maybe a genious idea on how to get more leverage on that 14mm wrench? I'm out of ideas and seemed to have tried everything.

It's the upper front strut mount, one of three, specifically the inner one on the driver side. I cannot get this nut to budge at all and I've been trying for hours now it seems. I got the rear done this morning and the passenger side front done as well, but this one nut is holding me from getting the driver side coilover in and my alignment appointment tonight in 2 hours...

Not much room in there but you should beable to slide a wrench over the 14mm with the box end to get more leverage. Ive done this many times and never had an issue getting that bolt out. Unless you have rust issues.

Thats a DSM motor 4g63! Best longblock for easy power gains. Love it.
 
Not when the DSM is smoking it!!

From comparison tests that I and friends have done, when the 'Busa is completely stock, and ridden by a skilled rider, the DSM (or any car of similar weight) would need approx. 900 whp, just to keep up.

Of course you can modify the 'Busa to run much quicker and faster than stock.

The quickest no-bar 'Busa I'm aware of (which could have been surpassed by now) ran a 6.50 @ 227 mph in the 1/4 mile.

The fastest conventional sit-on Hayabusa, was run by the late Bill Warner at Loring airbase. He ran 311.945 mph in a standing 1.5 mile run. On another pass in an attempt to exceed 300 mph in a standing mile, he ran 296 mph.

Now if we're talking a full streamliner Motorcycle powered by Hayabusa engines, the Ack Attack has the World Record at 376 mph.

Thanks for all the responses guys, I appreciate it. I ended up getting it off using the two wrench method and got it loose. I have no idea how I got that thing so tight on there when I redid my suspension a couple years ago with stock components... I've been meaning to pick up a steel pipe for stuff like this too.

I missed the alignment appointment but rescheduled for tomorrow at noon, I still need to do the diff drop before I drive anywhere and I want to lower the front about an inch. She looks so good lifted though.

I bet my 3rd gen would smoke the Busa and DSM, it does zero to sixty!

On a serious note, I couldn't imagine 300+mph on a motorcycle... Fastest I've ever driven was 145mph in a Diesel VW Passat rental this past summer on the Autobahn. Everything happens so fast at that speed you're pretty much screwed if anything goes wrong, especially on a motorcycle.
 
^agreed, I got up to 110 for like 5 seconds on my SV650 way back when and that was more than enough to stop me from doing it again.. Ever
 
I use a crow's foot for mine on a ratchet.

I tried that but couldn't fit the crows foot on there.


Anyone know about adjusting Toytec Boss Coilovers? Are they supposed to be incredibly hard to turn? I followed their instructions exactly with holding the bottom collar still using the spanner wrench and turning the upper collar but I can't get them to budge. I might just go throw my diff drop in and drive a little tonight and tomorrow after I get my alignment and see how much they settle, but I don't expect the coilovers to settle much if at all.

I dont put anything back together unless i am using blue loctite (med) or antiseize. You might try the same thing. The loctite actually works as an antiseize.

Sure, If the DSM is making 900 whp, it could keep up with a good rider on a stock 'Busa.

I don't know anyone that has a 'Busa and keeps it stock, including me.

My job is all about absolute performance on the Dragstrip. My hobby is bikes and Landspeed racing.

Bill achieved many milestones in LSR. His 311.945 mph run in 1.5 miles, might never be beaten. He died at Loring just over two years ago, while trying to exceed 300 mph in a standing mile. He came very close to that goal.

Here's a video of his old, slower LSR 'Busa that ran 278+ mph at the Texas Mile.

Here's the fastest 'Busa powered bike. Period.

376 mph two-way average speed, exit speed of 394 mph.

I didn't work on either Bill's bike or the Ack Attack, But I knew/know them.

Here are a couple bikes I worked on:

This held the SCTA/BNI record in it's class at a two-way averaged speed of 247 mph, for several years. 615 rwhp on VP Import fuel when pushed.

This one burned Methanol, and made approx. 670 rwhp.

The condition of the Salt held it back, and it only ran about 230 mph.

Both had gearing good for 290 mph on paper. But with the poor aerodynamics and lack of traction on the Salt, much over 250 mph the stock-shape 'Busa bodywork hits the aero wall, and the tire just spins.

900whp to keep up? Hmm sounds a little high. Buddy used to make so much money off bikes thinking there so fast and "skilled". Lol. The big motor ninjas gave him more competition. But again these are all street daily driven vehicles. Not track cars.

When I say what it takes to keep up with a completely stock 'Busa, I'm talking street legal vehicles, on closed or deserted roads.

That's not to say that the 'Busa is the quickest bike when stock these days. There a couple that can edge it in a 1/4 mile, with equal riders. It is still the best platform to build for outright speed. Of course if the best handling is a high priority, there are better options in the liter bike class.

I will say that there are a lot of squids out there that really have no clue how to ride.

I've seen a lot of videos over the years of clowns in cars that pull up to bikes, and then take off, and call it a kill. :rolleyes:

Meanwhile the rider is just riding home from work..

I've gotten this a lot over the years, most often from guys in Mustangs.

All I can tell you is that with skilled riders that know they are racing, against skilled drivers in fast cars that also know they are racing, it takes right around 900 whp in a car weighing around 3200 pounds, to keep up with a stock 'Busa. Now if the 'race' lasts long enough, and the car has the gearing and aerodynamics to run 200+ mph, it could eventually get past a stock restricted (186 mph) or stock unrestricted (low to mid 190's mph) 'Busa.

Incidentally, both of those bikes pictured at Bonneville, were licensed, street legal, and ridden on the street, when the lights were put back on.

BTW, I'm not advocating street racing. There are opportunities to stretch the legs of high performance cars and bikes, that don't involve running on public highways.

Exactly what this guy said. Then my buddy took his money. Even had girlfriend on video admit he didn't let DSM win. Lol
