Front Winch Bumper Question

@Addicted: i edited the post. the intent wasn't to offend. poor choice of words. it's not the head-on that i worry about, i'm sure yours is fine for that. it's also probably fine for rock crawling, and i agree about approach angle. my worry is that any hit to the corner of it is going to bend inward. I've seen similar tube bumpers eat **** for that very reason.

To answer your question yes that is the ARB# that fits the 4Runner. JSmith posted a couple weeks ago a detailed install thread.

Also there are alot of Plate bumpers that do not have supports running from the outside corners or edge back to the frame and will fold in just as easily as a tube

Thanks Pikeman. the OL bumper looks pretty good. i'll shoot you a text at some point and we can hookup. i wish the OL bumper had some lights like JSMarine's. that was a nice bumper. they were LEDs, no?

Also good to know about the plate bumpers.
 
The ODL bumper has 2" LED turn signals built in(included) and also provision for 4" Fog/Driving light.
 
Honestly, if you're on the plat bumper side, I don't know how you could go any other way that the OL ones. Especially given your location. Looks like they've done their homework with that thing.

Some like tube bumpers some like plate bumpers.

Scotty's bumper is stout and has great approach angles. You do have to cut and weld on a cross member that the bumper bolts to. This isn't a bad thing, you aren't going to pull the bumper off the thin frame.

FWIW, I have no issue with the plate vs. tube. Different strokes for different folks. Its just the method it was portrayed that was completely out of line.

Having never seen it in person, I was dumbfounded that the word "****ty" was typed.

To address your concern, I am curious what bumper you have seen folded there. Considering that roll cages are built out of identical material and can withstand several roll overs, why would you think that the side would be suspect considering its triangulated back to the 1/2" winch plate gusset to begin with?
 
My Addicted Off Road front bumper has taken quite a few hits on the front corners with no damage. Hard to dog on something you've never seen in person.

That's for sure! I'm glad I wasn't the only one standing up for them. Definitely a poor choice of words and not very respectable... but glad the air is now somewhat cleared up. I'll be here to back you guys up any day! Can't wait to be an owner of some of your stuff in the near future! Addicted Offroad definitely makes so awesome stuff!
 
lol, yeah i have a feeling the op is a little embarrassed, but that said the addicted bumpers are great i haven't seen a bad review against them, so
i think addicted's works stands up for it's self, which as a manufacture there is no other higher point of argument.

i can see a number of reasons why tube might be better then plate, but then the question is for who?

i'm not out on the trail every weekend, i basically wheel to get me to where i'm going so i can do my activities, with wheeling not really being the main attraction if you will , don't get me wrong i'll go out and wheel on a few down days, but i'd much rather wheel to the end of the trail then start hiking/skiing/climbing from there, so for me a tube bumper is a little over kill and not as pleasing to the eye imo, and that's fine some dudes got foot fetishes or like hairy chicks, not saying i do but each to their own you know? lol,

i just hope this guy comes back to the board and contributes, he seemed like a decent dude, i mean how many other newbies actually use the search function like this guy did before they post?

so let's all step back have a pint and chalk it up to breaking a newbie in,
like i said addicted's work stands for it's self and i'm sure the op would have know that if he was looking into tube bumpers at all, any research will show plenty of people happy with addicteds work, i just think the OP wasn't interested in the tube bumpers so didn't even bother to look into them and made a ****ty comment, pun intended.....

Very well said Izz. I was gonna suggest all the tube and plate bumpers get together and we have a big demolition derby to see which specific bumper stands tall in the end.

Umm I need my truck for DD purposes so you can use yours. Although I am sure my bumper will do just fine.
