Fuel can/rotopax setup?

With the Gobi Stealth rack, did you need the universal mounting plate to mount the FuelPaX mounts to or did you mount the FuelPaX mounts straight on the mesh?

At one point I was thinking of going the Rotopax route (still might) and was just going to do the mount directly to the mesh. I don't see a reason it would not work. I've done similar and just use a really wide washer and a rubber washer/gasket on both sides so I don't mar up the powder coat.

I like the Rotopax for it's modular and slim design. I currently have one 4 gallon fuel can that I mount to the roof rack using a modified cross bar setup I made before I went to Death Valley last fall. It did balloon, but never leaked. I just made sure to 'vent' the pack at the end of the day. Works for me!

how much does the rotopax expand when it's full? I also have the 4 gallon, and curious if it's a bear to get off the rotopax mounts once it balloons a bit? maybe one should adjust how tightly you screw it down with the rotopax mount? thanks in advance.

In my experience, it wont balloon enough to prevent it from coming off with the Rotopax mount.

Thanks. seems you could also manage when you fill your tank -first thing in the AM, or later at night before the mid day heat balloons your Rotopax.. just a little thought and planning goes a long way. :cowboy:
