Fuel door problems staying shut…release cable retainer

I don't know how I did this but the release cable retainer and the small spring tip at the end(the piece that releases & latches the fuel door) seems to be jammed inside or broken off.

If its jammed down is there a way of taking the pieces apart and pulling it out? If not can I just replace the plastic end or do I need to replace the whole cable?

The black piece in the pic on the bottom I took off in attempt to fix it, you can see on the top piece on the right side where there should be like 1/2 inch sticking out.

This is really driving me crazy :redbrick: thank you for helping me.

Is there any tension on the cable release up front? I'd see if you can push or pull the cable from up front to see if it's binding. If there's zero tension on the cable pull then I'd look to take apart or replace the end pin assembly. Don't have any firsthand experience on this though so I'm not sure what the replacement process would entail.

Thank you…you helped make my day!!! The end of the cable that hooks into the lever was hanging, took 15 minutes to get the darn thing back in but its fixed :whoo:

Thanks for posting this pic. My rear fuel door latch (the gray part) will not stay in the black part. But looking at your pic, I see now that it's because my retaining clips have been bent down almost level with the body of the gray body.

I'll be softly prying them up this evening to see if it'll latch in then. Thanks!

I just fixed mine today by replacing the little spring in the end. Got a #4 spring from ace hardware and reassembled and works like a charm. Thought I would share in case members in the future need to do the same.
