Fuel Filter change, advice?

Hello All,



Being a big believer in changing ALL fluids and filters (NOT steel meshes also called "filters" as is the case with our transmissions), this is something that has completely gone over my head. I know all vehicles have them and all of them can be changed. Our 4th gen rigs have the damn thing inside the fuel tank, HoWEVER there is said to be an access door under the rear passenger carpet. Has anyone done it? If so any advice. I imagine if there is a access point, then it can't be too much of a pain to do?

I'm kind of interested as well. I have low miles but I did it at 160k in my 3rd gen and wow what a difference it made. Of course the 3rd gen has a canister filter on the frame rail in-line, but I was surprised how much better the throttle response was after doing it. I was getting occasional symptoms of less-than-ideal fuel flow and it completely cured it.

I'm not having any issues with my 4th gen, but if it's worth doing I'm all ears.

The "Access Point" is for disconnecting the lines and connectors, it is too small to pull it out through there without modification.

You have to drop the fuel tank to get the fuel pump assembly out of thee tank to tear down. Honestly I have't see a fuel sock get clogged up enough to cause problems on a Toyota; usually the pumps will fail long before anything else and it's not usually due to restriction.

If it ain't broke...

I mean you can get the sock seperate if you hunt for it, but that's a lot of labor for something that is working fine.
