Fuel range

So a co-worker of mine has a 01 4runner. He was getting around the same fuel range as I was in my 97 (300 miles per tank). He recently took it into the shop to have a major overhaul done. That was a few months ago and he has been averaging about 350 miles per tank.

I'm curious what other folks (without a lift and tires) are getting for range? Am I on the low end of range or is my co-worker an anomoly?

My 01 with 263k can get 340 with a/c on, 4 passengers and stuff traveling 75-80, not too shaby! :cowboy:

1998 with 215K miles. I could get 300 on the highway easily but I fill up at 250. I recently replaced the spark plugs and ran some BG through the fuel system and that helped a lot. it idles a lot smoother and I swear I get about 60-70 more miles per tank

It's hard since so many of us have inaccurate fuel gauges. When I stretch it I can get 300 miles highway filling up about 16.5-17 gallons. I really don't like running it any further but I could get 340 or so if I ran it till empty.

Not to try to hijack this, but when does the low fuel light come on for you guys? I filled up when the light came on; and put 14.5 gallons in. Pretty sure our tank is 18+ gallons, and at 18ish mpg, that's ~75 miles till empty. My old truck came on with ~25 miles to empty... Anybody else know about there... Not sure if there's something wrong with my gauges... My mph is also fast by ~5mph...

[MENTION=122900]AZBub[/MENTION] gets 23 mpg, but thats because he lives pretty far from where he works, and the road to work is a 45 mph road with no stop lights for about 13 miles, then he gets on the freeway. the key is he has an automatic and it locks the torque convertor around 45mph, which is the most efficient speed for our trucks to travel at. on the same route I got 20mpg with my lifted armored truck on 35s and 3.90 gears, so take it with a grain of salt. it depends what your normal driving is.

on an offroad trip i get 15 combined but there is usually a bit of hill driving.

Lol, about the same here. Although I do fill up before it's actually empty cause I don't trust the gauge.

At 180 miles on a tank, I put about 12 gallons in and it tops her off.

I was worried about my MPGs but since I am averaging ~280 miles a tank with a lift and tires plus a S/C I guess I am doing alright then.

I own my truck and mpg's are something I gave up on checking awhile back. I figure if I'm not making a payment and I totally trust this truck, fuel mileage doesn't bother me as bad as it used to.

That being said, I took a trip a month or two ago to see my son. Just for shits and giggles, I decided to check my mpg's. I was getting around 17.5 on my last check, not sure when that was, this time I got over 19. The only thing that changed on this truck was I changed back to convemtional oil. I have no idea why it got better but I'm not complaining.

This beast just turned over 300,000 miles back in june and I think my mpg's went up because this truck is getting better as it gets older, or maybe I'm just biased.:dancin:

My average speed to an from work is 75mph. I absolutely despise the fuel gauge in my 4Runner, it's all over the map. Someone posted on here how to reset/re calibrate it and I think I need to. I'll fill up and it will drop to half a tank on a 1 way trip to work.

I get 217 miles with giant lights on top, 5 inches of lift, and armor. Bout 13 mpg, it used to be 8 mpg but I cleaned the fuel system with Techron and it's helped a good bit.

Average 350 miles per tank. I run out of fuel at 364 miles , Winter months its more like 325 miles.

I have been averaging 20mpg and my light came on at about 300 miles.

I have found that is it totally dependent on what part of the country you drive in, what the temp/altitude/humidity and how much flat vs mountains.

In my area in NC I get 220 miles from a tank (average 12.8mpg) doing 100% city driving.
On the flip side while on a long trip and even with a massive load in the cargo area for a couple tanks in the Oregon area I got 365 miles from a tank (about 21.5mpg) this was 100% highway.
This is with a freer flowing Intake and Muffler which gave me about 2mpg better on the highway.

A lot of this depends on our rear axle ratios. My '97 SR5 has a 4.10, so I'm not gonna get 300. I get 20mpg highway on a good day.
