Interesting, my gauge must be a tad more accurate than normal. I have a 2002.
I'll get about 300 miles before the light comes on. My commute is mostly highway, and I set the cruise at 65. I generally get about 21mpg average. Which I believe is pretty much as good as it gets for a 3rd gen 4Runner.
Anyway, when the light comes on and the needle is just a hair above empty I usually get 16 gallons into it.
