The battery on my 2007 4runner recently died and when I attempted to jump start it all I would get was cranking noises but no start. I figured the problem was coming from the theft protection so i took a friends advice and turned the key on/off a few times and commenced to locking/unlocking a few times then attempted to start it. To my surprise the car started but the entire dashboard lit up like a christmas tree. To make matters worse, pressing the gas pedal didn't do anything. The car wouldn't rev. My thoughts went straight to throttle cables but the gas pedal itself didn't feel loose or soft. I tried disconnecting the battery, left it for a few minutes then started it up again and still have the same problem.
Anyone know why this is happening and what I could do to fix it? Is it a security problem?
