Gas Pump Malfunctioned - Overfilled spilling to the ground

I filled up my 2007 4Runner tank and the pump did not auto shut off when the tank was full. Enough extra gas came out to make a puddle on the ground. What do I need to look out for now? I have heard this can cause issues.

I'm not so sure you have to worry too much...but it could cause a CEL and throw a code for the Evaporative Emission System, namely the charcoal filter needing replacing.

Like I said not so sure it will throw a code, I don't think over filling the tank one time will flood the charcoal filter to the point it will need to be replaced but it's possible, hopefully not though.

I have always topped off, and sometimes i would literally shake the car to get more in. lol Such a terrible thing to do, but i didn't know at the time. Never had an issue though and i owned my cars for well over 200k. So i think your one issue wont be a problem.

That said ill never over top off again.

It’ll be fine, as long as you don’t overfill it all the time you won’t hurt anything.

What issues could this cause? I top off my 4runner every fill up for 200k miles and have never had any issues. The pump has never done what is described here though...
