Has anybody done or is there a way to modify the fill neck to get the full 18 gallon capacity out of our fuel tanks?

First of all do you have Bluetooth issues with you nexus 5x?
I loved my 6p but after 5 replacements from google I switched back to an iPhone after 4 years of pure android.
Secondly, I think it's 18.5 and I can get 17 in it if I keep driving with the light on.
If you want to use the full capacity then you need to drive til your engine dies due to no fuel.
Otherwise you need to be looking at gas tank carriers.

Approximately how many miles, or gallons, do you have left once the light goes on?
No issues with my 5x whatsoever, Bluetooth works fine

I drove it till it quit once. Got over 350 miles to the tank. And put in 18.7 gallons. I hope i never do this again. It was scary, middle of nowhere hills in north AR. No cell phone service or anything really. Barely limped 3.1 miles after it shut off.

I "called it quits" after driving 323 miles on one tank and pumped 16.676 gallons in. I was also nervous about getting stuck in BFE.
Interestingly, the newer vapor-sensing nozzles at the gas stations stop filling the tank way before capacity, leaving the needle below the full mark on the gas gauge. I've been filling up less than a full tank for as long as I've owned this vehicle thanks to those modern nozzles.

The folks in Arkansas don't have those nozzles. Heck the folks in AZ don't have those nozzles. Strictly a Southern California thing! I pump 15 gallons almost every time. I fill up every 3 to 4 days, work days. I just live with it.

You dont need to modify the filler neck or anything. The issue I believe is in the float/fuel pump sending unit. They are just way off. At full empty I get about 15 gallons at most. Good thing is I always feel safe around E knowing I have 4 extra gallons.

About two weeks ago I set a personal record for biggest fill-up at 17.1 gallons. Don't advise going that deep though. I was stopped at a light on a fairly steep (@6%) decline and the truck died. I would have thought that the fuel pickup would have been toward the front of the tank, thus making a decline advantageous to getting fuel when low - but whatever, it died. I was able to turn off the hill and once it was flat got enough fuel to get into the gas station for which I was headed.

Not true for a '99, like myself or the OP. For some reason they modified the in tank vent-pipe in '99 and made it longer. They then revised the part as part of the fix for the funky fuel gauge that a lot of '99s had. You really can't get a full tank into a stock '99 because of this. 12.5 to 13 gallons is about the max. I have my tank out while I'm doing a frame swap, and I'm going to cut mine back. I'm just looking for the thread that shows the two different styles of vent pipe side by side so I get it right. (Anybody have that?) Anyway, I'll let you all know how it goes when I'm done. Gonna be a couple weeks yet.
In my case, I was NOT one of the s/n's with the funky fuel gauge (mine works perfectly) but I did get the long vent-pipe and I was not eligible for the fix while in warranty. (There is a TSB somewhere that spells this out.)

Ive had this 4runner for 2 years and ive been filling up from light to Full = 50L (13.2gallons) and lasting me 300-320km (186ish miles)?
Is there something wrong with my tank?

I'd love to check my VIN/codes against something if it would indicate if I had a "troubled" sending unit or fill/vent pipe. I did as [MENTION=88875]fblainen11[/MENTION] suggested last night, I drove way past my comfort zone, expecting to call AAA, and dropped the needle way down way below empty. That was 323 miles of mostly highway, but through the Sierra Nevada mountains from Reno to LA.
While my typical full up is between 14 and 15 gallons, I put about 16.7 gallons in last night and was like "whoa" - but I would be willing to drop my fuel tank to mod the fill/vent piping if I could ID it and have a proven plan to fix it. So I'll wait to see what [MENTION=10169]TheDurk[/MENTION] comes up with
I agree, the range of these trucks is their Achilles heel.

The pump doesn't sit flush against the bottom of the tank, therefore it can't suck up the last 2 or so gallons on the bottom of the tank.
That's why most people only get 16 or so gallons in the tank.

This is the popular theory. However, I just pulled my tank in the process of doing my frame swap and I tested this. I had drained the tank by running the last quarter tank out through the fuel pump until it sucked air. Then, once the tank was out, I propped it on end and sucked out all I could with a siphon pump. I got almost exactly 100 oz. out, and I doubt there was more than two ounces left behind--so call it four-fifths of a gallon, NOT TWO.
Anyway, I'll test this again when I fill it back up. I WILL find out what the max possible is.

Has anyone done the f-150 tank mod but left the stock tank in place? It's been something I've been thinking about lately. I plan on carrying my spare in the roof rack and that would free up the space needed to drop in a f-150 tank. From there gravity should do the rest. Just have a welded port off the bottom of the new tank to the old tank. Set up properly it should work. I haven't looked at how to route anything yet but I plan to in a few months.
Between the two tanks you'd be looking at an on board capacity of about 36 usable gallons. At 6lbs/gallon the extra tank would cost you an additional 108 pounds in the rear when full. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have that much of an effect on power or fuel economy. Somebody has to have done this already.

Here is the sender and the vent pipe I am talking about (the tube that ends by the ring on this guy's finger. That's what I plan to shorten. I just need to find a good pic of the newer sender for '99s.
