Gauge and dash light replacement

Just got around to replacing all my interior lights with LEDs from superbrightleds.com. Did a search on what type of bulbs I would need to replace my dash lights for my instrument cluster and HVAC controls. Saw that they could be 194 bulbs or 168 bulbs. Anybody do this mod and know what kind and how many replacement bulbs I'll need to order? Are the gauge bulbs the same as the A/C bulbs? Just trying to get all this stuff squared away before I actually have things pulled apart. Thanks guys.

The 1st, 2nd, and I think 3rd generation trucks and 4Runners have easy access to the Heater/AC backlight. I've replaced them in my '86 4R, '96 4R and '97 Tacoma, just don't do it on a very cold day (if the plastic is too cold & brittle you could crack it). Pull off the knobs for the temp, fan, and position selector . Then pull off the cover that has all the wording on it with a very small screwdriver, slide it in one of the slots, and carefully pry one side off it's snapped-in position. Underneath this cover, there's another clear plastic light diffuser, pull it off and you'll see the bulb (there's only one bulb). Take out the bulb, drive down to the auto parts store and ask for one just like it. Sometimes they come in a two-pack for about $4-5, no biggie.
