Gauging interest for bumpers

just to put this out there, it would be difficult to make a bumper that weighs more than 200 pounds. it would have to be a beefy 1/4" mofo with thick 1/4" sidewall bars on top. and it would have shit tons of reinforcement.

and it would be awesome on my duce and a half....

Oh - and I don't ACTUALLY have a duce and a half - but if I were to get ... LOL
I just don't want to hang a massive bumper off of the 4Runner. I want to be able to maintain reasonable road manners and not replace the front springs with large blocks of wood...

I agree, I dont like the bumpers that look like phanny packs. most of that extra bulk is because they want to fit a big ass winch. but they over do it and make it capable of fitting a 12k winch, and then it hangs out. When you put the winch in, it weighs more than the bumper.

A few things came to mind about taking this exact design and bolting it to 3 points on our vehicles and removing the hitch mount.

1. The first two points are where the rear recovery hooks are. Remove these and use them to bolt 2x2 steel bars.
2. The second point or third (if we want to be precise) is where the rear tow hitch attaches to. We remove this and now we have 3 points to fabricate something that attaches to these points.

The OEM bumper stays in place, there is much less metal/weight and it still can look pretty clean.


This is the one I am talking about that fits the Jeep Cherokee.

In my opinion there is just too much damn metal on all of these front and rear bumpers. I have a Shrockworks front bumper and I look inside of it and see endless wasted space. Don't get me wrong, I love Shrockworks and Demello designs but then I see something like the Southern Style Speed bumpers for the 5th Gens and wonder why companies don't offer something like this for the 3rd and 4th Gens.

Marshall fabricated his own bumper and even though it's not small like the Southern Style, its still reduces a lot of weight in the areas where metal isn't really necessary and it's a beautiful design.

Ok I see what you mean. I do like that however I just don't don't even want my OEM bumper. I am wanting to replace it. But I do like that idea.

As for how large it is going to be. I guess it mostly depends on if the person wanted to put a winch and light ect inside the bumper. I am almost thinking of doing a receiver hitch winch so I can use it front and back if I do a winch so that can make it smaller.
