Gear changing noise(from P->D)

Hi all, already a owner of 4runner for 3month, it has 3000 miles now. Recently I notice that every start when I change gear from P to D, it is not very smooth to shift, I can feel like there is something scratch from the inside of the transmission to prevent me to shift, there is also a sound at that time. I don't know how to describe that sound, it is not loud, last for maybe 0.2 second, one time only.
Also, when I stop at the red light, I usually stays on D gear and just hit the brake, but when I release the brake pedal, If I release it quickly, my 4runner will shake once when start moving.

I know this may be not a big deal to some guys, but just want to make sure it is not a problem, I plan to let dealer check this on 1st maintenance(but I am 90% sure they will say: IT IS NORMAL). Thanks in advance!!:fro:

Stupid question, but could it be that you have the parking brake engaged? You may want to make sure that pedal is properly released. That might explain some of the weird feeling and noise (notification noise??) when trying to shift into D.

The 4runner makes a beeping sound when driven with the parking brake engaged, found that out last night while in a rush. olice:

My question is, are you using the parking brake when you stop driving and then placing it into park? I've noticed the wife doesn't use her parking brake in her FJ and when the truck is placed into park and the brake pedal is released it rolls forward or back (what ever direction the incline is) then when you go from Park to Drive it makes a popping sound and you can feel the XMSN engage. Also when you describe this feeling of it shuddering after you relase the brake pedal, is this happening while your stopped on a incline? The 4runner has that (can't remember the name at the moment) sensor that detects rolling backwards when on a incline, so you don't loose traction or roll backwards to far...

Yes, the 'fast clicking' you have when you change from P to anything else is normal. It is the 4R doing some kind of check, we all have it.

The shake when starting to move I can not shed light on.

Yes, when I stop without using parking brake, 4runner rolls back or forward a little bit, after that it is generally more difficult to shift to D. Otherwise, it is easier to shift, but still has that noise I mentioned above, I think it may be just the sound of transmission engaging, just louder than my 02 camry:surfer:
The shuddering is happened when I am even at a small up angle, I think you are right, I'll check my owner's manual tonight. Thank you for give me the idea!arty:
