Getting my Duratracs installed tomorrow morning

After searching and reading hundreds of reviews I had narrowed it down to BFG AT or Duratracs. I run BFG on both my 2000 Expedition and my 2001 F-150, but with all the great reviews thought I'd try something new.

Went with 265/70-17 "C"

And yes I know . . . :worthless

I went back and forth on the "C" vs "E". Read all the reviews on soft sidewalls and "floaty" feeling at freeway speeds. etc Since I don't tow with the 4runner and very seldom venture off road I went with the softer tire.

I have 265/70-17 BFG AT in "E" ratings on both my Fords and they do ride rough. Great tires but a bit rough for long freeway drives.

As a self proclaimed "Poser" I just like the agressive look of the Duratracs even though 98% of my driving is freeway in the sunny SF Bay Area. Everyone said get Michelins but life is too short not to get what you want. After all they are just tires and can be replaced if not what I like.

I agree 100%. I'm sure most people are in the same boat, we don't spend as much time on dirt roads as we would like. Silly things like a mortgage just gets in the way. Now back to the good stuff! :hungry:

I got the duratracs 265/70/17 c load installed about 1.5 months ago 1000 or so miles.. the' re great. my first aggressive tread tire so i cant compare to anything besides dunlop at20 and nitto 420s's... they are louder than both to say the least. but hey when it snows or when you want to go off road you dont have to worr yabout anything.. let us know how much psi you put in?? most of the information on t4r is about e loads. Discounttiredirect, told me 1-2psi less than stock, which didnt make sense.. 38-40 was too much as there were signs of cupping on the back of the blocks. and vibrations around 50+. I recently aired them down to 35 psi after reading a post from an e loader who put in 31 psi.. IM still confused about what the correct psi is to run for these tires, and i would hate to wear them prematurely as they were kinda pricey.

All went well except after they were mounted and installed I took a look and they are "E" rated not "C" rated. Already mounted and balanced at the shop when I got back. They offered to remove and re-install my originals and re-order the "C". I told them "no" I'll just give the "E"s a try.

First impressions:
Had to remove the front mud flaps at shop just to turn. Would not have made it home otherwise.
Will have to move the front inner wheel wells forward just a bit
Not as harsh as I would have thought (at 50 psi). May air them down a bit.
Tracked great at freeway speed.
OVERALL - They look great. A little humm at speed not to bad.

Wow! :wow: you run 50psi?!?!!? Factory suggested is 32psi. Granted, you did size up a tire, but still dunno if I would run that high of psi even with mostly city driving.

Tires look good. If you take the Spidertrax off, will that help with rubbing issues?

What kind of lift do you have? I see it says 2", is that Cornfed 2"-1"?

The "E" rated tires have a 80psi max. I run 50psi in my BFG AT on my fords. I'll have to see how low i can run the "E. So far 4 miles on them hahah

I think it will rub worse with the spidertrax off but not sure.

Not sure on the lift as I bought the truck lifted. It has a aspacer on top of front spring below mount??

Looks great!!! It should rub less if you take the spidertrax. I had no issues clearing 255/75/17's, added spacers and had rubbing like crazy. Totally worth it IMO, I wouldn't change a thing!

I recently aired them down to 35 psi after reading a post from an e loader who put in 31 psi.. IM still confused about what the correct psi is to run for these tires, and i would hate to wear them prematurely as they were kinda pricey.

With suspension and alignment in good order, they should wear better at the higher pressure. That's generally true, but in addition, it's Q speed rated which means it's going to run a little hotter than most which doesn't help wear. The higher pressure will help it run cooler.

Thanks for the good info. I may take them off we'll see. Does anyone run just spidertrax on the rears. The fronts seem to set out just a bit wider. Gotta say the "bulldog" stance with the duratrac and spidertrax does look good. Let the posing begin :biggrin2:

Does anyone run just spidertrax on the rears.

I run spidertrax at all four corners and light racing upper control arms.
