Give Me ur Opinion Pics of my New Tires

So I just had my new tires put on 315/70/17 on a set of 17x9 5.5 backspace rims. I get a little bit of rubbing on the UCA when i am turning but other than that nothing major. Give me your guys opinions i have until monday to get a set of smaller tires.

Rubbing at full lock on the street? Rubbing at full compression on the street? If so, start cutting and trimming or get some smaller tires. The size will be more of a pain in the ass than you would like to deal with.

Shud I add wheels spacer?

I remember going through putting 35s on my 3rd gen... You can do wheel spacers and that will help with the control arm, but with 315s I will guess that adding the wheel spacers will making the rubbing worse on plastic parts on the fenders, but that can be cut if need be

I get no rubbing at all on any plastic all the trimming was done, its just the stupid UCA's that are rubbing.. i think it might be my rims because they are +12mm offset, i am wondering if i get diff rims with -12mm offset it would no longer be rubbing???

changing to the more negative offset will give you more clearance from the suspension components, this will eliminate rubbing the UCA but my guess is that you will need to trim the liner a little bit more. with such a big wheel/tire combo you should think about an aftermarket UCA but you will definitely need the -12mm offset wheel.

happy to see you finally got them on, i know you've been struggling with this for quite a while. what tires did you end up going with? love the wheels btw!!

I have aftermarket Light Racing UCA, i had put them in when i had the lift done. But I ended up getting a set of Dunlop Rover M/T 315/70/17, but i guess that they ordered me the wrong offset of rims, so i have to go back on monday and talk to them.

need the correct back spacing! Wheel rubbing UCA is no bueno.

My only problem with changing the backspacing is then i will get bad rubbing on the body and i really do not want to do a chop, i dont think it will be that bad if i leave it as is. the rubbing is not very severe only at full lock on the uca

I agree with you. You will probobly have to chop the body mounts with a different backspacing. I had too, there was no way around it. It really is not that big of a deal, pretty easy to do, or have done. There is a lot of threads on the FJ boards related to the mod.

So i think that i am just going to leave the tires as is, the rubbing is not very bad and i really do not want to do a body chop since it snows alot here, i dont really want it to rust. The UCA is only rubbing minimal at full lock and is barely touching the body. Overall I am very happy with these tires, they are very quiet on the road. I have yet to try them in any very rugged terrain but am hopping to go muddin this weeked.

Hey cgill00 - they truck looks pretty sweet! You mention that the Maxx Traction are quiet. Is that as compared to mud tires? What did you have before the Maxx Tractions?

I'm trying to decide between the Dunlops and the Duratracs and really like the Dunlops. On the tirerack survey results they don't compare as favorabily as the Duratracs with respect to noise.

Oh and BTW, I wouldn't sweat the UCA issue. I had a Tahoe with 295/75/16's BFG ATs that rubbed a little on the control arm for 5+ years at full lock. I would check it every once in a while and the tires and UCA were fine. I just made it a point not to go to full lock when turning .

I understand you dont want to do the body chop, but what does the weather have to do with anything? It would only rust if you did not do the chop properly. Most people (myself included) weld a new piece of steel around the body mount to box it in and then repaint the entire section. You would never have an issue with rust if the work was performed properly. If that is the only thing holding you back you might want to rethink things....

I agree with what BFLAN said, just chop the body mount, spray some weldable paint on the inside pieces (I think there is something like that available, someone correct me if I'm wrong) then weld of a new piece of steel and paint that. You should have no issues with rust whatsoever if you do it right. Since I'm not a welder and don't have all the materials, I had my muffler shop do my body mount chop on my 08 Tacoma.

Aren't the tires gonna rub a lot under full compression when off road, especially when turning?

The tires do not rub under full compression if i am going straight, but obviously they do a bit when turning under full compression but i do not do that much offloading to really have to worry.. I don't think i have to worry about popping a tire or even having uneven tread wear since i won't be doing to much offloading, more snow driving.
