Glove box dampener?

Was changing the cabin filter on my 2006 runner and noticed the glove box dampened was only attached to the glove box and nowhere else. Is this correct or am I missing a piece?

Discovered the same thing on mine last week. It's suppose to be attached, just not sure where.

One of the holes on the "shock" part hangs on a tang up and to the right of the corner of the box. The tang is in the dash, holding the upper part of the shock, while the flat section (with the hole at the bottom) attaches with a phillips screw on the side of the box.

It takes a couple of times to get it right, but you should be able to do it in just a couple of minutes as long as you understand how to pull the box down to access the filter.

It was attched to the actual glovebox... I removed that screw. But the top was unattached

Same here. I would have expected the lower one to be missing, but not the top one.

Got it!

It hooks on to the second hole in the dampener. It's nice how easy the filter is to swap. My old accord made you take apart half the dash to change it out.

There is no screw holding the top part, it just hangs on the tang protruding off the side of the inner dash. It is easy to re-install. Off the top of my head, I believe it uses the lower of the two holes as it attaches.

Those dampeners have a tendency to slip off the split-knob its attached to. I just rolled up a piece of gorilla tape sticky side out between my fingers and just wedged it in the split. Never popped off again.

Right, it wasn't engaged fully or not attached at all by tech. You should see how "quick lube" places attach engine air filter latches (1 closed and 3 open ).
Techs dont give a rats arse about your car, all they care about is lunch and friday afternoon (payday).

Ah, that explains it. I haven't really looked at it, just noticed it wasn't connected.
