I keep my maps in there....great little cubby
I've had my vehicles search three times. Twice it was my Corolla search by the Ontario Provincial Police and the last time it was my 4runner searched by US Customs.
I don't mind tell you because on all three accounts I had nothing to hide and my vehicle was clean, as it will remain in the future (my contraband days are over). But I will tell you that every search was pathetic. Even the one where the officer said he "saw marijuana residue in my carpet", the search was nothing more than emptying out my glovebox, center console and trunk.
K9 search is a different story but from my experience they won't bother calling them in unless they really smell pot and come up with nothing on there search. Generally that's just a threat to scare you into admitting where the contraband is.
Since your in law enforcement I don't expect you to agree with me, that's just my experiences. Individual results may vary:
Actually I do agree with you mostly. The fact that the officer "saw residue" is bull****. Those sound like basic searches looking for marijuana is all. Since that's a low priority drug that sounds about right. There are departments here locally that use a k9 quite frequently but that's because i35 is a fairly common drug trafficking route since it runs from Texas all the way to Minnesota.
My silverado I had before my 4r had a great hiding spot under the cup holders. The only reason I brought up the police search stuff is all these hard to find hiding spots fascinate me for some reason lol.
