GOAT truck armor

Hey guys, last week when I attended the RSGOffroad Open House event I saw a really cool looking Tacoma that had something on it that I initially thought was a funky wrap job, but later found out it was a new product called Go Off-road Armor Tech aka GOAT. Its basically really thick magnetic panels that you can put on your truck for protection. I checked out their website same day and found out that they only offer it for the 3rd gen Tacomas. Long story short, it turned out that they are in Castle Rock, CO which is about 30 minute drive from me, and they needed a 4Runner to finish the design so they can come out with armor panels for our trucks. I got in touch with Matt from GOAT and offered him my wifes truck so he can do his thing and release the product to the public. They just finished with all the measurements today and should be ready to start selling in the next couple weeks. I'm beyond excited for this and thought I'd share the news with you guys. I'm in no way associated with their company, I just love their product, love that they are local, Made in USA and Matt is super cool dude who puts a lot of effort in the things he does (he's also manager of upTOP Overland Racks but that's another topic)

You can check out their website for all the different patterns and colors they have. They will be releasing the same colors that are listed currently for Tacomas for the 4Runners as well.

I wonder if they are going to come out with a "bedlined' version like the ones that are popular in australia. I saw it on 4wheelingaustralia or something on boobtube

i've seen plastic ones but they are absurdly expensive
 
I am definitely interested in this. How is he adjusting the output for the badge variance in the rear near the back window? Your wife's trail badge is different than my Pro badge as an example.

I honestly dont think that something like that is in the works. He told me what he wants to do next but I dont want to spill that yet.

That's a great point and it was one of the first questions that I asked. So that rear panel is going to be two pieces because of its shape. You can either de-badge, or make the cut in the panel yourself. He said that they are not going to pre-cut the panels there because even TRD Pro to TRD Pro badges dont align the same on every truck
 
Yeah they are about to release it for the 4Runner any time now. The initial plan was to have it out by end of May from what I gathered but they didnt have a truck to finish the measurements and everything else that was needed. I can't wait to get a set in Swedish Urban Gray.
 
Interesting product... I guess?!?!

Is it just that magnetic sheet stuff that's typically used for vehicle signs? If so, I had one of those signs on the side of my old Tundra crumble to pieces after less than a year. It wasn't very strong magnetically either. Just picturing branches peeling the armor sections off while flinging them into the bushes.

I know it's magnetic and I know it's armor, but...
Their website has very little information about the actual product. Nothing about the product in the FAQ section. The only info I can find (unless I'm missing something) is as follows in the product description (using Tacoma as an example):

**For 2016 + Gen3 Toyota Tacoma Short-bed Double Cab ONLY**
- Urban Gray Swedish Camo - Large Scale
16 piece set:
- 4 fender pieces (two per side)
- 4 front door pieces (two per side)
- 4 rear door pieces (two per side)
- 4 bed side pieces (two per side)

What exactly is the material?
How thick is it?
Is it UV resistant?
Perhaps a video or two with product capabilities

I just left a website for another highly recommended off road accessories manufacturer that had no specifications listed for their winch bumper. Not even the finish is listed (paint, powder coat or raw steel?) Never mind that their website is setting off all browser warnings as NOT SECURE!!!

Some of these off road products companies make great products, but they do a lousy job informing potential customers.

Dust will get trapped under the covers and the magnets although will allow very minor movement which overtime will polish your paint till its opaque with scratches. I would not use.

That’s what I was thinking. If you didn’t wash your vehicle 30 seconds before applying these then you’re gonna screw up the paint pretty good. Especially if you have a darker vehicle. Any movement is just more scratching.
 
I ended up doing an Xpel ultimate wrap over all the painted surfaces of my Raptor truck; was $$$ and honestly I wouldn't do it over again, but it does work to protect from branch pinstriping

I like the look of these!! It's awesome to be able to push through branches w/o worrying too much about the paint. Keeping an eye on this one!
