Gobi / Aftermarket Roof Rack Usage

Wash mit over Swiffer head. Towel over Swiffer head to dry. Method derived from one of the smart members here on the forum! I just adopted it.

Did clay bar, paint sealer, and wax job before installing rack. Helps keep crap from sticking.

Thanks man. I didn't think you would be able to get anything under the low profile racks, but I also hadn't thought about the swiffer thing. Good idea!

It's not a Gobi- he has a Baja Rack I believe...I don't think it's possible to destroy a GOBI.

I just brought home a cedar swing set this weekend. It came in a single giant box- 211 lbs! Me and another guy threw it up on the GOBI with some straps- he was like "Uhhh...are you sure about this?" lol

Handled it no problem- I could definitely feel the weight up there on the way home though. Not a creak, not a scratch, nothing.

It was pretty fun getting it down by myself too!:help:

Yep...it's a Baja rack. It's bowing in the center, the paint has chipped everywhere, which is leading to some substantial rust. I've really put some weight up there so it's taken it's fair share of abuse. Kayaks, cases, RTT, wood, surfboards, people, etc. I've walked on it hundreds of times. It's like a huge tripod when I'm out doing the photo thing. I'm sure that's a reason for the noticeable bend in the center. From day one I planned on using it. I didn't want it to be just another hunk of metal I carry around. I've even used my light bar to secure my surfboards during a huge storm along the outer banks. It's served me well, however, if I could do it all over again, I would have purchased a front runner rack. They're always pushing the limits in design and product diversity. They're continue to innovate and expand they're product line. Just my two cents....:lalala:

There was a cleaning thread that someone created using a swiffer wet jet as a cleaning solution for getting under your rack.

It almost looks like you used your roof rack to pull a gooseneck trailer. THAT would have made you the winnar of this thread.

Care to elaborate on which length rack and what front feet you're using to mount a full rack to the roof? Last I saw, Frontrunner wasn't selling a full length rack "kit"

They don't. Custom front brackets that just act as support (no drilling). You can find more details about it at

I admittedly don't load up my roof like most of the guys on here that need the strongest support available, and at this time I don't see a RTT in my future.

However, after seeing some of the other 'runners on here with the Yakima and Thule crossbars, I was thinking that it would look cool and be as functional as I need it to be (hauling road bikes, mountain bikes, kayaks, canoes....basically all long items) by having the Yakima and Thule crossbars mount directly into the stock roof holes where the OEM roof rail "feet" are located.

Does anyone know if there is an adapter or product which would sit like that? The end goal is to have only the cross bars on the roof, not any roof rails that the cross bars attach to.
