Gobi Ladder Rubbing Issues...anyone?

Anyone who has installed Gobi Ladder have any rubbing issues on top bracket right corner when opening/closing hatch?

Just tried installing today per instructions but corner still rubbing where paint getting scratched off both on bracket and inside inner trunk. tried sanding down, but still no improvement.

Mine rubs along the bottom edge on the bumper. I have zero rubbing on the top.

Unfortunately this is becoming a known fact. I got Paul form Gobi Racks to make me a new plate. It's the same plate, just with the corners cut. I will post pictures tomorrow.

Email him, he will send you a replacement for free.

Sorry, completely forgot. Here some pictures, though problem not solved. I believe its the curvature of the truck. Like it's slightly a semi circle shape. Thats why we are getting the rubbing...

So you are still "rubbing" with new bracket? Do you think it would me a difference to shift slightly to left or right? Thanks again

Good question, I think that's what I'm trying next. For me I only have rubbing on the right top side of the plate. I am convinced there is a slight curvature and finding the right spot to prevent the rubbing may be a little task... though possible. So left to right I cant say, though going to try left at first. The damage in this image is from the new plate:

Thanks guys! Sounds like dremeling that piece inside is the ticket to get bracket to lay flush.

You beat me to it Antman :50cal: ... I just took some pics of the spacing on mine when open and was going to post that with the dremmeled backside of the bracket...

I know I was messing with that bracket quite a bit when I installed my ladder, but I have no rubbing at either the roof or the bottom.

Wow! I am really having a time with this ladder bracket. Still rubbing! Almost identical to MeBe4running pic above. Used new angled bracket and dremeled like antman's post.

Antman and/or Okki, are you guys exactly 3 3/8" at top? Also, what is your measurement from bottom left of trunk to ladder?

Top gap between lift-gate and body. there appears to be a little wear on the corner, but I could not see any visible marks on the body of the vehicle.

Under-side view of top gap between lift-gate and body. As you can see, the ladder mount does catch rain/dirt on the corner that is towards the center of the vehicle.

Top side of the entire ladder bracket with lift-gate open. Has clearance everywhere.

Bottom view of ladder mounting bracket (bottom of ladder). Shows a little scuff mark with matching scuff mark on plastic "step area" on rear bumper. was not visible in the dirt unless you know it's there. :nerd:

New Prototype Gobi Ladder Plate...

So, this is now the third ladder plate. I still have rubbing and got to the point where the damage is done and slowly giving up.

Gas Struts for rear hatch: Paul (Owner of Gobi Racks) is still looking and researching for more heavy duty struts. I plan to see him over the next week or two to test weight and pressure that would be needed for our situation. (people with ladders/or blown (close to) struts).

You dont want it so it knocks you out as you open it, lol! :boxer:

Check the middle of your trunk hatch to see if it rubs slightly on center?

Last week I noticed that mine was slightly rubbing (not sure if it was due to putting ladder on or if came like that from factory). I think it was like that from factory and may have never noticed since it is slightly grazing inner trunk groove. Took to dealership who had bodyshop realign. Hoping that was the cause of ladder issue. But will know for sure after attempting 3rd hanging plate.

Checked the middle section on my hatch thoroughly and found no rubbing, thank goodness. That would have been the tipping point for me! It looks like some debris of some sort has got in there and caused the rubbing.

What was the dealers response as to why it may of happened?

I did not tell them about ladder, but they blamed it on roof rack. Aligned it this one time but said if it happens again will not be covered under warranty.

I know it must be hard to decipher the infinite wisdom that the dealership posseses. That said, how did they blame the roof rack for the hatch being out of alignment? I gotta hear this...

They really did not have a clear answer even when I asked for clarification. Gave some song and dance maybe during the install of rack someone put weight or leaned on trunk hatch and caused it to misaligned. Just shook my head ...dumbfounded. just content for now that they fixed it

Thats simply crazy! Glad you got it all fixed up though.

I am on my forth ladder plate now.... Paul has been really good about the whole thing to be fair. The plate is a little thinner, two screws underneath (to prevent it from sliding) also the right hand corner has been shaved a little bit. I will post pictures in a week to see the outcome! I covered all the previous marks/scratches with touch up paint, to see if the new plate will make any new marks.

Good news on the gas struts, we think we have found the right struts. He's ordering them and they should be in next week! Yahroooo! Will keep this thread posted!
