Gobi Ladder Rubbing Issues...anyone?

No pressure but just so you know my sweet angle faced 5 year old daughter asks me daily if that guy on the internet found a solution so she can finally climb on the ladder. Again, no pressure for you or Paul about breaking a little girls heart.........:moping:

So I have had the new plate on now for 12 days. Testing to see if the problem has been resolved, so far so good. I will post pictures.

I am RELIEVED to see and hear that! Thanks for update. Round 3... fingers crossed for last and final fix for ladder mount. Then, hopefully struts will be resolved soon as well!

Last email from Paul stated, Gas springs should be ready by the first or second week of the new year.

For those of you just joining us... there has been issues with "rubbing" and contact with the GOBI ladder installed. We found the solution then added a problem. Those who have the ladder installed where finding that the additional weight of the ladder was too much for the stock OME gas struts that opened the rear hatch. So Paul at Gobi Racks found some "Heavier Duty" struts and installed them. Problem was that these new struts opened the rear hatch higher than the stock OME gas struts did. Therefore the plate now made contact with the top of the truck. Long story short was Paul needed to re-design a plate that would accommodate the new struts and no longer cause any rubbing issues. Paul has done that and it should be done by next Friday. Follow this thread to stay updated

Well, that's not encouraging. My GF just told me that my birthday present (Gobi ladder + struts) will be here on Tuesday... three days before you just said the *correct* plate will be finished. Awesome.

Here's the plate I just installed on my truck. Looks like the same one that gives everyone rubbing issues. I don't *seem* to have any rubbing as of right now, but I'll keep an eye out as I climb up and down on it.

I installed the beefy struts this afternoon. They are VERY easy to install, and it took less than 5 minutes total from the time I took them out of the box.

A couple of things to note that others may or may not have mentioned:

1. In reality, I only *needed* 1 strut to successfully fix the sag issue. I installed the driver side strut first and it immediately was strong enough to lift the gate all the way. However, the OCD in me kicked-in, and I needed the symmetry, so I installed the second one.

2. Pushing the tailgate up as far as it will go (even hyper extending it) helps significantly during install.

3. The Gobi ladder now makes positive contact with the Bajarack Utility Rack. It hasn't caused any immediate damage yet because it seems to be a good angle for the ladder to shear over the rack with very little friction. But, I imagine it'll scrape powdercoat after a while. Not sure if I'm going to worry about it or just let it go. If I come-up with a clean looking solution to prevent the damage I'll likely fix it. But, putting electrical tape up there will bother me more than the damage. Perhaps I can find a thin adhesive rubber to put over the contact points.

This may be a stupid question, but has anyone contacted Paul @ Gobi about the contact issue? Seems to me that the real fix is a slightly shorter shock so it doesn't hyper-lift the tailgate?!?!

Yes. There is another thread on the subject. Not sure if it will help the OP but it's being worked on for those with a Gobi rack.
