I asked TD if they charged card at time of order, or time of shipping. They said they can do either. I had them charge with order, that way the cash is out of my bank account and it doesn't confuse me thinking I have extra money. I ordered the part, I'm going to wait for it, why not pay for it now.

After I got to thinking about it....I can see value in either path really...that's a decent service they offer

Had I had to do it again, I would have had them charge at time of delivery. It's easier to cancel and get your money back for those unforeseen circumstances when you need $1600 for an emergency. Also just like paying more than your share of taxes, why would you let someone else earn the interest on your money.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you order? I ordered the stealth rack and I also asked them when they charge (albeit after I processed my order online) and they didn't give me an option, they indicated they charged immediately.
I don't like it but I figured that was the way it was going to be when I placed the order so I'll wait.

I ordered the Gobi stealth, no rise. I called to order because I was having issues with their website. Over the phone I asked when they charged the CC and they said I could do either, they gave me a price and I said charge it. After I ordered over the phone they sent me an email invoice with a price lower than quoted over the phone because they gave me an extra discount that was better then the gobi100 I mentioned. Possibly because they charge tax in Texas.

Finally got word that my Gobi rack gets here tomorrow, one day before I leave for this trip. Order confirmation April 25 - shipped here Aug 16. 16 weeks and one day.
 
My Gobi Experience Thus Far...

Ordered my Gobi Stealth on May 19th. That's the date they contacted me and sent me the confirmation e-mail/invoice. I obviously initiated the purchase via their website days before May 19th. On July 31, 2017, I received my first response from them stating that my rack would ship the week of August 21st, and that they would not respond to any additional inquiries regarding this transaction until after August 29th.

The week of August 21st would put them right at the 14 week mark. I'm guessing that I'll probably end up around 16 weeks considering I'm still waiting for them to charge me for the transaction, etc.

I don't have anything big hinging on the rack getting here, and knew what I was getting into, although I am like most who would like it sooner rather than later.

Figured I'd add this information here so that anyone considering the same path could connect the dots, and see the simple fact that it is what it is when you order a Gobi rack. If its what you want, then just commit and tell yourself that you're just going to have to wait like the rest of us clowns.

While I don't appreciate getting one response to three attempts in obtaining an update on my order, and playing the 'long waiting game', at least I've made it this far and MAYBE a week or two from now I'll join the others who painfully waited for theirs too. Considering where I am now (13 weeks in), its not seemed that long...but I have lots of distractions too.

28 weeks for me now. I got a call from them 20 days ago to confirm something with my order. Apparently it was being welded while we were on the phone. Haven't heard anything since.
 
Ordered 06/29, asked for an update this week and they said "approximate ship date of End of September". I'm at 8.5 weeks right now, that'll put it at 13 weeks for end of Sept. No complaining here, just posting for reference.

I ordered mine on the 11th, and yes it takes some effort to talk to a human (hint, select 1 for sales and 2 for customer support is the same person, but the second call usually gets answered haha) but I was told ~4weeks (as compared to 6-8 by using a third party vendor). When I got my confirmation e-mail it said 8/25 delivery? Okay, that is 6ish weeks but given what I was told I called back and they agreed to uphold their verbal statement and later that day I got a new e-mail with expected delivery date of 8/11.

I like the look better, and the service better, and look forward to hanging this off the truck soon.

Got mine about 10 days ago. Took close to 20 weeks from date of order to receiving it. I inquired several times while waiting for it. I was initially told it would ship in June, then early July, the mid August.

Gobi's customer service is terrible, I would be very hesitant to order from them in the future. I'd have no problem with waiting 20 weeks if they could just be upfront about it, or at least provide a reason for the delay. Instead it seems like every person you talk to is just making something up to get you off the phone.

That said, the rack is great
