2012 3.5L. He was in and out of the dealership to get it fixed under warranty. They kept sending it back “greased” and within a few hundred miles he would go back because the grease slung out and the clunk was back. They refused to replace the driveshaft. He said it was like they were trying to get him to drive it until it was out of warranty so he would have to spend a chunk of change to get a new driveshaft himself.

Ok, was hoping you were talking about an older ecoboost. They've come a long way.

Had the same issue with my 2012 but I ended up fixing it myself by installing a grease zerk on the slip yoke and kept it well greased. Made the truck soooo much smoother. Any vehicle that doesn't have a way to grease the slip yoke will have these issues eventually.
If you think Ford is worse than GM, you're very mistaken.
I personally wouldn't buy anything but a Toyota, though.

I recommend the 3.5 though to make this post relevant. My brother has an 11 with no problems with 170k

3.5 is a great motor, but overkill for me. 2.7 is what I'm going to get.

Sort of on topic, i am also looking for a newish truck(2 to 3 years old) and am torn between an f150 or ram 1500. I still plan on keeping my 4runner but the truck will be mainly used for truck purposes to tow a boat and haul wood. Currently i am leaning towards the ram with the 5.7 as the fords 2.7 and 5.0 are lower in the hp and tq ratings. Just curious what everybody thinks of the ram compared to the ford

A small biography
I have two 4runners an 05 and 09 both have icon suspension and 33s, so gas mileage is mediocre. My 05 goes to my stepson in December so this year I started my research. The 16+ Tacoma was in my sights until I got further into my research. Price, size, mileage, power output the only comparison between the Tacoma and f150 was reliability and price.
Tacoma just couldn’t compare in power, size and mileage was questionable. I chose 2015 F150 with 2.7l xlt sport package. Decided on used vs new mostly for price. I drove the 3 engine options Ford has minus the diesel. The 3.5 was my favorite, but when the used one came around that fit the bill it had the 2.7L which had plenty power coming from a 4Runner. I average according to the trucks computer 21-22 mpg around town. I don’t care about the scientific mathematical breakdown on the actual mileage, I’m trusting the computer for what it reads and I am plenty satisfied. I love the power and smoothness of the truck and the big 36 gal fuel tank. When I fill up it reads 800+ miles until empty.
Ive only had the truck now for 5 months and I’ve put around 15k problem free miles and the ODO is reading 44,300. The stop/start is sort of a nuisance but all the 18’s+ engines have it and there is a bypass button to turn it off.
Coming from 4runners and an 02 Tacoma, I took a gamble with a Ford but thus far I have been mostly happy with my choice. I do miss the size, nimbleness and looks of the Tacoma and 4Runner but I get still plenty of drive time in the 4Runner.
I have done zero upgrades to the Ford against my will as I continually find myself rubber necking at every passing lifted Tacoma and 4Runner. I feel the near future will have me going back to my first love, Toyota. Toyota just fits my interests and outdoor lifestyle.
Oh all these comments about the guys driving these trucks for their company they work for. Well keep in mind those truck prob see numerous drivers and driving habits. I know if my company offered a truck as nice as the F150 eco my foot would be in it all the time bc I am not paying the repair/maintenance bills. If you own own one you will take care of it and it will treat you well. There are “bad apples” and “lemons” with all manufacturers.
Bottom line, my opinion, the Ford is great but I love the asthetics and outdoor lifestyle Toyota’s are geared toward. No other other manufacturer can offer an aftermarket or upgrades and adventuring life style like Toyota(maybe JEEP if you want to fit in with all the girls and every other lifted JEEP on the road and famous people) Both vehicles have their place. Make your decision on the lifestyle and recreation you enjoy. My f150 is currently for sale....
