Good Deal on Used Tires?

I will probably get crucified by ya'll for thinking about putting the stock tires back on the Limited wheels...but I came across a used set (~10K miles) of the Yokohama Geolander's 245/60-20 for $500 on CL.

I dont do any heavy offroading, mainly driving on loose sand at the beach. I currently have the Geolanders now and have never had any issues in snow, sand, rain, etc.

I am not a huge fan of the looks of the stock tires as they look so skinny but is this too good of a deal to pass up?? Or should I bite the bullet and put something legit on there?

No way would I ever get used tires. That is something stupid I would do at 17.

There is no market for this size, so I would expect you could grab them for way less, like $200 total. That is what I sold mine for with same miles. Phone did not ring.

500 bucks for 10k mile worn tires sounds kind of on the steep side...I'd wait and keep an eye out on the classifieds here; you can probably get something with much less mileage from members here whom are swapping to new rims all together

I really needed a good deal to justify putting those tires back on (and sounds like its not). Since I can probably squeeze another 5-7K miles out of my tires now, I'll sit tight and keep my eye on the classifieds here. Worst case I will have to put a nice set of A/T's on.

Speaking from experience, there is never a "good deal" on used tires unless you are broke and your current tires are worn to the cords. Even getting a set for free is not a good deal sometimes.

Can I tell you a story about when I was in my college days and poor as heck? My tires were wearing down close to the legal limit and I thought I could squeeze a few more thousand miles out of them. Along came one rainy day when I had to panic stop, and well long story short, I rear ended a guy and ended up costing me ~1k bucks out of pocket to fix his car. On top of that I spent more money to replace my worn tires. All because I was too cheap to replace my worn tires

Tires and brakes are the last thing to hold off and skimp on

Ill leave the classifieds alone for now and start looking into new tires...

Somehow I knew you were going to point me to that thread...I know alot of guys are putting those size tires on the limited wheels so I guess this is a better option then buying used

I think 500 would be about right if they were new take-offs from a new rig. But with 10k on them, probably 300 is what they are worth. For example I just sold my new take-offs in a 265/70/17 for $460 for 4 of them, that's with 600 miles on them.

This is correct. NOBODY needs 245/60/20's except a 4Runner Limited owner. I

i am running on BFG All-Terrain TA KO's i bought @ 75% tread left from craigslist for $240 for the set of 4. 9000 miles later it still looks the same.

They cost $285 each NEW, i am 42 and i guess i still have not learned my lesson LOL. my previous tires were BFG rugged trails that i also bought on craigslist for $100 and sold it after 2000 miles on craigslist for $120 LOL

I have a set of 10k used OEM limited tires for sale @ $325 for the set. take a ride up to philly and i can mount and balance them for you too @ $15 each. if they suck as hard as everyone says. i will take them off your truck and put back the factory tires and all you loose is gas and tolls then i am out of the labor and time and sale! we can go PM for further details if you want to proceed

You have been lucky. As [MENTION=85512]eddiebx[/MENTION] said Tires and Brakes are the most important parts of your vehicle. When I was a kid a guy GAVE me a set of BFG's half worn. I thought I had won the lottery! Put them on and they would not balance. Ran them anyway because I had no money. I then had the right front separate at 70 mph. Before I could get stopped the carcass mangled my fender. After paying to get them mounted and several balances and then a new fender I ended up buying a new set. So, no opinion here just experience.

I deal with tires enough to spot problems. I touch more tires in a week than most in a lifetime. I bought and sold that set of nitto mud grapplers for a decent profit. Bought them used and sold them used. Everyone was happy

Thanks for the offer but the village elders have spoken..New tires are the only way to go...Plus I found some FJ wheels for sale locally...

I know that I will be more careful now. But I got a set of BFG Mud Terrains off a 2014 Jeep Rubi For $500. They only had 8k on them and the spare was brand new. I met him at the tire shop where they took them off. I've had them on for about a month and a half and they balanced perfectly. So no problems here. But I also wouldn't waste my time or money of they weren't in like new condition.

Serious question, what's wrong with used wheels? Seems easy enough to inspect for damages, and not much to hide under the surface?
