How are so many people getting above 17 mpg? Are you all 2wd owners?

The max mileage I get according to the dash is 16.8mpg and the last tank got 350 miles per tank.

My runner is a trail edition so yes its in 2WD. I personally did not want full time 4wd after having a Subaru forester with full time and also having previously owned a jeep with full time. Love getting the mileage and feel of 2wd in the trail edition!

Hell, I'm averaging about 16 in a 2wd. Of course I just hit 1000 miles today, so maybe the engine hasn't broke in yet. I just filled up and the computer said 365 mile range for a full tank.

Then again, we bought 4Runners. Like I said before, if gas was that much of an issue, get a hybrid. lol

I'm consistently getting 20-22 mpgs thus far.. Though, my consistency isn't all that much of a consistency since i've gassed up the whole three times, so far.

But I can tell you one thing.. my old car's tank was 2 gal larger, and I had to gas up twice a week.. Runner has been running for a week thus far, and i'm still looking at a bit over half a tank. I'm in love with this truck.

My wifes 11 is averaging 17 MPG! Really not happy at all! closest non ethanol station is 70 miles away.. boo.

I checked my wifes as well. best ive seen is 18.5. Why such a drastic difference? And ours is a 2WD limited.

For a 4.0l v6 18mpg local I cant complain.

Mine is 4WD. OBVIOUSLY if it's not a limited and being driven on the highway it'll have the transfer case set to 2WD.

Like I said, mine is highly variable, either way. For a while I thought it was gas dependent, but it does not seem so.

The other observation is that when I run it on gravel roads in 4 High mileage isn't affected all that much - about 19 mpg at 30-40 mph constant. Why did I try this? Owner's manual says you should run the part-time 4WD systems in 4WD for a few miles each month to make sure all the bearings and diff gets lubed.

For a 4.0l v6 18mpg local I cant complain.

For a 4700 lb vehicle, can't complain, no matter what the engine is.
