Wranglers (not Jeeps in general) hold their value well because they are in high demand, yes. But they're usually an outlier on those vehicles with best resale lists (i sometimes see the mini-cooper too). The rest are usually vehicles from brands with great reputations for reliability - lexus, toyota, subaru, honda etc. those cars are in high demand because they're reliable. Chevys are in high demand too, but they just don't seem to hold their value anywhere near as well as the brands i mentioned and probably because of questionable reliability.
I guess we'll know in about 5 years just how much of a step forward they've taken in the reliability department. And in my experience, it's not their trucks with issues but vehicles like the cruze or traverse etc. to be known as a reliable brand, you need to make all of your cars reliable, not just one or two line-ups. That's why Toyota's reliability is pervasive across the Landcruiser, Hilux, 4Runner, Tacoma, Prius, Camry, Corolla etc. and they've maintained that same level of reliability for generations. It will take quite a bit of time and an initiative across all of their vehicle offerings to improve reliability to erase 30+ years of history of subpar quality in the reliability department. JMHO.
