My LKQ ordeal buying a radio.
Back in July I went to the LKQ in Indy to get the radio. I was told on the phone they had three, only one showed on car-part.com. They pulled the box with one out and it was cluster from the car. Eventually they pulled the box that was supposed to have the cluster and it had the radio. Unfortunately it was the 15 model. They said all three they had were the same. I showed them the stock number for the one on car-part and after a while they found it, but the volume knob was missing. They looked at their computer and found one in Ohio that looked good and had the knob so I paid for it and had it shipped to me.
This was July 21. The next week I get an email from UPS that I had a COF package on the way. So I call LKQ and ask them why it was being sent COD when I had payed for it. The guy tells me that's a mistake and he says UPS doesn't do COD. I wait and UPS tries to deliver it when I'm at work but they don't leave it because they need money.
I call the guy at LKQ that I bought it from and he says tell them to send it back and they will have it re-sent not COD. After a couple weeks of no radio and no news I call them back and I can't get the guy, he also won't return email or voicemail. Finally I get a woman there who seems to know what she is doing. I explain everything and she says she will send another one out. The next week I have the radio, but it's missing the knob. And it's not the one they had in Indy because it came from Pennsylvania.
At this point I figure it's easier to just buy a damn knob than to deal with them any more. So I order the cables etc and the knob. So I get this thing installed and everything is great, except the USB cable doesn't work. Fu.......
Next day I call her back and explain that everything is great, except the USB port does not work. She says she's very sorry and says she is sending another one out and she will figure out what I should do about sending the first one back. The next week the new radio comes in and...... yes, it's the 2015 model. Seriously. So the next day I call her back and tell her it's not the right one that it's the 15 year model. She looks in her computer and tells me this is the right one. I go back and forth and finally get her to understand the difference. She says it shows the 00140 model is right for a 16 FR-S and she doesn't see the 00160 and is worried the 00160 won't fit my cat. I explain that I'm not concerned since I'm putting it in a 4Runner.
She says they don't have the 00160 radio and in fact none of their locations have one. I say I am looking at car-part and there are at least 10 around the country. She says those are all the same 15 model. I said, no, they are all listed as 2016 and have the right model number. She says she will have to look into it and get back to me. A couple hours later she said she found one and is waiting for photos of it to be emailed to her. I ask her to send them to me when she gets them. When I get the email it's a miracle, it's the right radio. And..... it's missing the volume knob. Do FR-S owners keep these an souvenirs? She says she's sending it out and will let me know what to do about sending the other one. Ack.
The nice man from UPS drops off a box at the house yesterday and I'm almost afraid to open it so I leave it unopened until this morning. Now I have the first radio and two others that they have sent out without further payment. Today I open it and it's the right one. I install it and it actually works! Holy crap! Now I'll wait and see if they get back to me about sending the other two back.
My advice if you are buying from them is to buy it there or get photos of the actual item emailed to you. Oh, and some times when I called them the call got routed to a store in Ohio. This happened before I went to the indy store. The guy even told me that he got into the Indy computer system to look for it. He said they have had the radio for over a year and that it was priced at $126 but that their minimum price was $85 and I should offer them that when I went in. lol
