got my T4R appraised

I went to CARMAX this weekend to get my truck appraised. 2004 SR5 in grey, 11,000 miles, excellent condition. They appraised it for $20,400. They said 2WD only brought the price down. Do you think that that's about right? Could I get a better quote somewhere else?

That sounds about right for a retail shop. You could probably get more for a private sale. I was going to sell mine at a lose of $6000, instead I bought a LC for $7k and kept my runner.

It depends. What options does it have? Is that a trade-in value or private party value? Looking at kbb.com and choosing the default options lists your vehicle as having a private party value of approximately $24,800. KBB, however, is usually a little high.

Go to autotrader.com and ebay.com and look to see what vehicles like yours are selling for. On ebay, you can search for completed listings. Look for ones that actually sold and how much they sold for. For trucks that are still for sale, don't bother looking at dealer's prices as you won't be able to judge from that. They usually list used prices at or above that of new prices.

Basically, you'll get more from it by selling to a private party, but it will be more of a hassle. Maybe a couple days extra work at the very most. Is that worth a few thousand dollars to you?
