Got some bad news today

Call this number 800-331-4331 and they'll take your complaint. You might need to ask them to transfer you to the US headquarters the file the complaint.

As long as your friend doesn't charge you a full shop rate, it shouldn't be that bad.
 
You can't weld to rust so that frame is shot so the only solution would be to source a rust free frame from here in FL and replace it but if you can't do the labor your self then it indeed may not be worth fixing, That rust is quite bad.
 
I was able to find one frame in South Carolina...however the time and money into repairing that would cost a lot more than what the car is worth. It's such a shame mechanically this truck is awesome and fun to drive. The only thing I can think of is to part it out...but I need to commute to work every day and fortunately at the end of the month I am moving closer to work I can walk there..So then I can decide on what to do but for now I am nervous getting behind the wheel of my 4Runner now
 
That's not too bad for cape cod rust, i own a 02 toyota 4runner sr5 with 109k, green no running boards with a front brush guard and off road lights, I wouldn't own another truck ever! Most reliable problem free rig i ever have had. I work in Hyannis, my boss and i repair frame rot on these all the time. That's why you cut the rusted section out first! The rust on the frame it not that bad, and it can be fixed with ease. I'd rather fix a frame like that than to swap everything over.

It's a problem as that frame needs to be treated (sand blasted) and only then can you even attempt a repair like that but then again I don't hack things so if you are referring to a hack job then I suppose there is nothing to lose but I would rather see the job done properly,

You do not need to sand blast anything. Strip the paint off, cut out the bad the section, grind the left over away, treat with naval jelly, weld new section in, and then treat the inside of the frame. I've fixed many frames with rust this way, and no issues. I'm still beating the crap out of my 93 YJ, and I fixed the rear on it the same way as above.

You not making a show car that is going to have mirrors under it showing your work. Fixing it the way I stated will most likely out last the car. There are plenty of alternatives then a full off restoration of the frame. If it were me, I'd cut the entire section out, and weld new box tube be in it's place. Nothing hack about anything I said. Welding over the rust to simply cover it up is a hack.
 
You can totally weld in a new section of frame and weld on some frame plate, probly be stronger than before.
 
Well I had the truck looked at by a shop who has done many frames on 4Runner's like mine..and they told me that it's fixable. It'll cost me between 600-700 dollars which isn't as much as I was expecting to pay. But they said it's repairable and that there's plently of good frame left to weld to so that's what I'm going to do. So I will not be parting my truck out so I don't want any more PM's about needing anything. Thanks! :cool::biggrin2:
