Got stuck, transfer case question.

So, out in Leadville Colorado last week I got my 012 SR5 stuck by pulling off a snow covered road shoulder dropping the drivers side wheels off the hard pack. ATRAC tried its best but no go, it was high centered on the snow. Common mistake, got pulled out by a Tacoma within twenty minutes. Bt here's the transfer question. When shifting between 4H and 4L I couldn't get it to not grind, in all gears D,R & N. it even did it shifting back to park. I had my foot on the brake to stop any wheel motion, etc. owners manual says to shift to N, It still did it. This wasn't a slight grind, it was unnerving and needed force. Similar to shifting a unsycnronized tractor tranny. Any thoughts? Is also shifted hard between 2H and 4H. Truck has 5k on it.

It has been discussed before. I know my 10' did it very hard and loud the 1st time! By the 3rd time it was totally gone and silent. I know a decent amount of others have run into this but it seems to pass quickly. IMO it should not happen at all, but oh well. It you keep getting this issue after a few times and it does not start to reduce then you might want to have it looked at. Yes, N is correct.
