Great vacation until...

So this past weekend the girlfriend and I went to South Lake Tahoe. We did a cruse on the lake, of course she did some shopping. All was great, until we decided to see the sites and go hiking. We walk from our hotel room to the truck (from the front) then drive to a store to get some lunch for the hike. We get to the store and walk around the back and Amber says "someone hit the truck"... "WHAT!!!" :dammit: Well some A$$ Hole backed into the 4Runner in the hotel parking lot and did not leave a note or anything, just some white paint and a big dent in the bumper. :behead: The damn thing is 6 months old!!! Well the up side to the whole situation is it is just the bumper, no metal was bent or even scratched. And a $250 deductible will fix it. There is a Toyota dealer in my city that has a collision center so I am pretty sure it will be going there. I have an appointment with an Allstate claims guy tomorrow to see how much this will cost and stuff. I just pissed off that people have no respect for other peoples property, and the 4Runner has now been involved in and "accident". This is going on and on now so I'll stop. Thanks for letting me vent. Of course here are the pics.

That sucks. Stupid people....

You should check to see if putting this on your claim will raise your rates at all. If it will come out to less than $1000, I would just DIY.

Also, this might be a good time for an upgrade. :D

Have you asked the hotel if they have a security camara of the parking lot?

maybe they caught it on video???
 
shit dude that totly sucks ur right at least it was just the bumper and didn't do any damage to any mettle u ever the guy that did this and well getem for ya

That is exactly the reason why I am putting a paging alarm on my bike so I can catch worthless people like that!!!!! That has happened to me with my current Jeep Grand Cherokee... TWICE. That won't happen when I get my new 4R! :bash:

There is no respect for life or property anymore...anywhere! Drives me crazy what America has become!
 
oh wow... reading the post i thought it was just some minor scratch and i was even going to tell you to just do a DIY on it like what i did to my bumper.. but as soon as i scrolled down i was surprised to see the damage....
 
I had the same thing happen at a company sponsored retreat. We were the only people at the retreat center so it had to be a coworker and still no note. I've checked every car in the parking lot at still haven't found the culprit.

At least you got to spend some time in Tahoe... I love that place. But it sucks about your car.

A friend of mine recently was driving his truck and accidently swiped a parked truck as he was trying to park. It didn't dent the guy's truck, but it did put a scratch in it. He went inside the nearest restaurant and told the guy behind the counter that he needed a piece of paper so he could write down his information to leave for the owner of that truck he hit. The guy behind the counter asked him what vehicle he hit, and my friend told him that it was a black Dodge Ram. The guy behind the counter then went irate, calling him a f***-er and all kinds of things. My buddy was shocked... it wasn't like my friend was trying to get away with anything... he told the guy upfront that he needed to leave his info for the owner so that he could pay for the damage. But the guy was just livid. My friend eventually got a little upset twith the verbal assualt, and was twice the other guy's size, so he asked the guy if he wanted to settle it a different way. The other guy finally calmed down, but it makes you a little upset when you try to do the right thing and the other person acts like a jackass.
 
Yeah, I also had my first thought of contacting the hotel manage to see if they had a camera that might have caught the culprit, then you might get a plate number and they could be charged with hit and run, or whatever other offense they could be charged with, and their insurance will pay for it, not yours.

NOT cool. The ONLY reason I bought my extended warranty on my 4R was, because it covers door dings. I've only had the MF'er for just over a month, and some sorry SOB's have gotten BOTH sides of my new ride. Now I park like a total asshole, 45 degree, across two spots. Usually pretty far out in the lot though so as not to piss off too many people.....
 
Thanks for all sympithy. The parking lot at the hotel didn't have any light standards in the middle or anything so the camera thing is probably not there. Also it happened between 4:30 pm Friday and 10:00 am Sunday so that is a long time to search if there is any video. Not to mention the guy at the front desk did not give a rats ass when I asked for the # for the police. Which I din't even call cuz the clames person said it wasn't necessary.
 
:iagree: with all the above statements. Usually my 4Runner is far away from the entrance, enough that I could almost just walk to the place rather than drive. A hit and run is the second worst offense IMO for the lack of respect of another's property.

My FIRST and what always pushes me over the edge, is the lack of concern of another's property in my presence. I saw this fat d*****bag just bouncing her f***ing door off mine. First time, I can let it slide and it's accident, but twice and repeatedly... now you're just playing with fire. My actions at this point doesn't matter, because doing it right there in my face is straight disrespect, regardless if there was or wasn't any damage. If I'm standing right there and you're hitting my car, you might as walk up and spit in my face.

:xnuts: is for anyone who even thinks of causing damage to another's car. Retaliation doesn't apply. ;):

Shouldn't a well designed bumper be able to take a shot once in a while and not sustain this type of damage? I mean, if it can't, then what good is the bumper?

I think this is the first post I've written with all questions in it, isn't it?
 
Leaving a note

I was leaving work one evening, pulled out of my space and heard a horrible scrapping noise. I accidently hit the car next to me.
It was my fault. I wasn't paying attention. Most of the time I have no one next to my car. I had my 4Runner for about 8 months and I thought I was going to break down and cry. It turned out to be only a scrape and the other car had some of my paint on his front bumper.
I left a note with my phone number on his car that night. I ran into him (no pun intended) the next night and he thanked my for leaving my info and he said he didn't see any damage. Thank god he was a good guy.
 
Sorry to see what happened to your truck. As other members have mentioned, definitely check if the hotel had security cameras. It definitely looks like the person that hit you was going a bit too fast in a parking lot.
 
Yeah, even if the lot was not lighted most good security cameras turn to black and white mode at night which really brings out contrast. Also, searching through that much video does not have to be linear. If the camera operator knows what he is doing he can do a split-split search.

AND, if you were staying at Harvey's that place must have a TON of cameras because they probably don't want to get blown up by a copier bomb again! There is still video of that bomb going off on the internet.

I would have been hopping MAD if someone did something like this to my new 4Runner. However I would not be left with many choices either other than having my insurance fix it or repair it at my own cost.

I think most vehicles nowadays are equipped 3 or 5mph bumpers. But I think it's designed only to sustain a bump, which in this case I think the other vehicle was just pushing on the bumper or a slightly faster impact.
