Wouldnt have that problem with a solid axle.
I think what Rob means to get the antenna matched to the radio so that the SWR is 1 to 1 match. If the SWR is too high it's bad for the radio, and decreases your output from the antenna.

that kit is going under an 88 runner, I also have one for my 86 xtra cab yota. But currently working on the blue runner I had at jambo, found a complete 3.4 swap out of a T100 I'm going to go get. Then decide what to do about suspension, kind of leaning towards your dads idea of a clean semi resto rig so I can flip it
Been taking a break from modding the 4runner to play with my new toy. It's a smith & wesson m&p15-22 that I've been modding and plinking around with. As fate would have it however the brakes were put on that project. I was trying to get to a fishing spot in the back of a bayou after some heavy rain. I had made this crossing across a high concrete point in the bayou several times before but the few inches extra and the steep angle made the intake suck up the dirty water like a damn straw. I didn't even begin the crossing when my engine died and immediately slammed the brake and started yelling at my buddies to yank me out. Short story long my buddy I'm a mall crawling f150 goes down to get me and starts spinning tires to even get him self in to position, my other buddy in a brand new 2014 sr5 t4r ends up having to pull the f150 out from behind me and then me out of my pathetic position. All in all it took about 15 minutes to get me off the side of this culvert, all the while having bayou water seep into my doors. After tow strapping it back to the house we fired it up and fogged our entire street, drained the chocolate milk oil and noticed that it was eating coolant and was not firing right. Sure enough, coolant in the cylinders. Getting all of my ducks in a row but as of now it looks like a 3.4 will be put in by a buddy instead of chasing gremlins to get the 3.0 running semi reliably again. Shitty situation to say the least but at least it's a fix/upgrade that I can get behind.
