GreenbowCounty's build up!

New socks, new shoes

Swapped out the Kumho MTRs and painted sunflowers for some KO2s (34/10.5/17) and the bronze FN Wheels Five Stars. Headed to Palo Duro Canyon, Texas for a few days in June so it made sense to go back to an AT tire. New tires are roughly 33.5" full so only slightly taller than the Kumhos and they are a D load range. Had the BFG ATs on my 98 several years ago and had no issue with them. Still got a ways to go with paint, detailing and bumpers, etc. but it's coming together.

The carrier has additional mounting options but I'll be putting a FrontRunner ladder system on it and my SURF tire cover

Side profile; expect it will look much better in the coming weeks with bumper installs, detailing and paint. Plenty of sag out back.

This weekend:
Working on installing the AllPro Apex bumper up front
Braided brake lines from Toytec
Replace burned out FMU bulb

New open maintenance item is a torn driver's side CV boot...:moping:

Also considering new rear coils, Superflex perhaps to replace my LC 8 wraps. I know they don't do well under load but was surprised how much sag I got after throwing the old tires, wheels and spare in the back (little over 300lbs). You can see a bit in the side view shot. Plan to have the truck completed by end of April. Sidelined with work and the kid a little bit but it's getting there. Be good to get it out to Texas this summer. So far in excess of 1200 miles on the V8 and it continues to impress.

I was hoping to get some sort of video. At least Rob made it past the teasing stage and just made the rest of us jealous with his YT videos.

How did the local guys like the conversion?

Looking great man!

I agree. Much better one to come tomorrow after I pick up a larger mem card. Forgot I had the skeleton cover on the back of the GoPro so please forgive the excessive wind noise.

Looking great man!
Momo thanks, it's all about the JDM man; hope you got that stuff installed.

Got a few things knocked out yesterday; swung by my local muffler shop and got a quote on a reroute job for the exhaust. The right mount is broken (see below) so getting this sorted. With the reroute I will have both coming out and behind the passenger rear tire. Decided to go with a factory look too. May even go to a stock muffler; after a while that droning gets tired...

Also took it to get dynoed; one hour, three pulls and a few minutes later results are inconclusive. Tester David was having a time keeping it in one gear without it upshifting etc. We basically just shot the stuff about his shop, race carts and his Baja days so not a total wash I guess...

Also discovered my passenger side inner CV boot is now torn; fantastic:jaw:. Time for OEM or CVJ replacements.

Did get home to this though: winch came in from NorthRidge, two packages from FrontRunner and two 4 Gallon packs from Rotopax. :llama:

From FrontRunner I purchased a ladder and grill. The ladder uses a ratchet system to attach to the rear tire as shown below and the grill simply mounts under the ratchet straps. My JAOS ladder doesn't accommodate the SSR-X spoiler only the SSR-G or blade spoilers.

I was able to drop off my front bumper and sliders at a local 4Runner forum member's shop so we'll be working on that tomorrow. Cut frame rail ends, weld on bumper ends, also compensate for the 2" lift. Originally planned to run BanditRunner 's bumpers front and rear but dealt with three different companies that seemed to have three different issues so finally pulled the trigger on the Apex for up front and CBI Hybrid for the rear.

The Rotopax and HiLift will mount to the Whitson. It already has mounts in place thanks to the PO URBAN_ASSAULT. Will need to make some adjustments to accommodate the Rotopax but it's straightforward.

It's good to finally see the truck coming together after some setbacks here and there in the past. :lookout: With only three months to go till Texas I'm getting pretty damn excited about this thing. :jump:Cheers!

Ps

Can anyone tell me how to edit my thread title? Yes, I've searched but no luck. Truck is far from dead these days:boxer:

Out of curiosity, What were the issues that the 3 shops had with the Bandit bumpers?

Afraid I sped through my post and didn't clarify that point on the shops properly. It was manpower and lead time items:juggle:. Nothing related to design of the bumpers. The CAD files and your follow up alone :phone:were much appreciated.

Hey GreenbowCounty, is there any way you could show me what the inside of the core support looks like that's holding up your tire carrier??

Sure thing

Give me through the end of the week to take some for you. Took it in this morning for some measuring and cutting so please bear with me. Have you already sourced a tailgate and tire carrier?

Thank you! Take your time because I'm in the drawing stages of getting my tire rack on.

I got mine off of a 1995 4Runner. It's in pristine condition and I'm going to mount it up to my 2000 4runner. The more pictures the better!

Do yourself a favor and hold off on that. Not saying it can't be done but if you're interested in a SURF hatch I'd hold off and wait as opposed to installing a carrier from a 95; trust me you will appreciate the difference. I was fortunate on mine because work had me in Japan at the time and when I was coming back they helped me out big time on shipping my stuff home. Check out Kijiji, the Canadian equivalent of Craigslist. I see SURF hatches pop up often. There's a company on there too all they do is JDM parts from Northern Japan, think Sapporo Parts or something. If you need help getting a carrier I can help source one. I've found hatches and carriers for two different forum members. All it takes is some patience. I paid about $300 for my hatch and Toyota helped me ship it when I came back home. It's the shipping that costs more at this point but again check out Kijiji; with you being in Wisconsin you would have far less to travel than people on my area.

Probably going to have to visit this dyno guy... I was told a while back that typical shops wouldn't touch lifted trucks and people didn't enjoy Toyota much either. Good looking as awlays man! See you soon!

Seat swap, front bumper start and bulbs for FMU

Recently got started on a few things:
Front bumper prep and install
Slider prep and install
Seat swap

DSC_8464_zpsfplktcuq.jpg~original

For the Apex bumper the front flanges/frame ends have been cut (before pic)

DSC_8468_zpsbrxr6nsp.jpg~original

Got it in to a local forum member's weld shop for measuring. With the 2" BL I've opted to have the sliders angled up. Will test out different angles before tacking on.

Got in my Wedge seat brackets yesterday and was hoping to knock out everything today but that's not the case. Here's some progress pics, should be completed by the end of the week.

I'm selling my Limited seats to the guy who bought my 98:scared: back from me so I'll be salvaging the electronics and wiring from them for plug and play function

The black does a good job of breaking up the all tan interior and the seats are quite comfortable. Leather is softer than Limited so I'd expect better wear. Had some minor issues with the bracket not lining up on back right but that will be addressed. All in all I like the look and feel; the shoulder bolsters do rub the seat belt housing but aside from that no issues.

Also got an IPF 924 searchlight from Roadhouse.jp out of Japan.
DSC_8474_zpscwxka9b1.jpg~original

It's a remote controlled search light that turns 360 degrees and up and down up to 80 degrees. IPF discontinued these some years back and after searching a bit came across this one brand new. It'll mount to the front of the Whitson after I get it cleaned up. The plan is to run the wiring for the remote through the opening where my 4WD shifter was.

CBI Hybrid should be here hopefully this week and then on to paint and lights...Cheers!

:thumb: Keep the updates coming man! Your truck is definitely one of my favorites with the JDM theme - there's not too many of us die-hard Surf fans here.

Preciate it Sauce, it's good to finally see it coming together. JDM's always been my thing but think I've hit the wall on that...:sobbing: Only things out there would be a Momo steering wheel and that's about it... Hopefully get out of work early and post up a couple of updates this afternoon.

IPF 924 ftw!
ryhi thanks man; I've been after one of these for a long time now. Gave up altogether so I'm pretty excited about getting my hands on one. Looking forward to some updates from you man! I see you have that LS but that 3rd gen of yours is still slicker:D IMO

Did you actually buy those JAOS mud flaps? We ripped on those pretty hard on another thread. I sure hope you are getting an 80% discount on all your JAOS gear.
Hello spam bot and thanks for checking in. Nelsonmd looks like your post is officially spam bot worthy.:clap2:

I'm almost at the same point of being done with mods, too; I have a couple things pending install right now, but after that I think I'll have the truck where I want it, with the exception of a regear. Already looking into picking up another vehicle to daily and to mod a bit, too.

The factory Momo wheel is on my list as well if I can ever find one...never, ever seen one for sale, even on Yahoo Auctions. If you find one, that'll certainly be drool-worthy...lol.

Where do you plan on mounting the spotlight? I had to search it to see what you were talking about and now I want one dang it.. but they are $$$!!!

What does a 3rd gen momo steering wheel look like and what about the air bag?
