Grinding in Park and Neutral after start. Dies when changing gears.

So Ive done some research but I can't quite find anything that is related to my problem. A couple days ago, I changed my valve cover gaskets and almost everything went fine. I couldnt get the spark plug wire from cylinder 4 out gently. I yanked on it and I eventually knew it was gonna be bad. After putting everything back together I got a CEL, figures.

I took it over to auto zone and they told me a misfire from cyl 4 and I just replaced the wires and it fixed the problem. During the process of resetting the CEL, i removed the negative from the battery and waited. Attached it back on and heard a pop. Couldnt figure where it was coming from and thought it was a fuse. I checked them all and they are all good. After putting it back together, it started up fine. I put it into reverse, and it died on me. Checked the wires and everything is still good except for that pop. I double checked everything and still no luck. Now, every time I start it, it grinds in park and neutral. No idea why. Asked my friend who is a mechanic in the military and said it might be the neutral safety switch?

Any ideas? I'm running out of patience and could use any assistance. Thanks.

C'mon guys. 19 views and no help? HELP ME PRETTY PLEASE !!!

I also just noticed that my starter will randomly engage. Its not a full on start though, only a click, sometimes maybe 2. I checked the positive post and it isnt touching anything that would cause it to engage. Im thinking it might be connecting along the lines running from the battery to the starter. Im at work and i cant currently look at it. If its any help, i did clean my engine bay with some degreaser so could it be leftover water somehow completing the connection at random. Thanks again for any input gents.
