That's one nice looking Pointer! What happen to your roof rack? I also think I should have taken your advise with the Prinsu rack, and stayed away.

Thanks man. He's actually one of three that we have...the other two are sidelined with injuries so they didn't get to go. Which was kind of nice just having one for a change.

Never had a roof rack. The Prinsu never fit, and after that just to be able to get my tent back on my rig I just got some smittybuilt L brackets and put those up there. I'll probably go with the guy who built [MENTION=63487]A.Wilson013[/MENTION] 's rack, it's very nice.

I always wanted to get a Pointer. We've had a Weimaraner in the past, but never a Pointer. Right now we're on the no dog replacement policy for about 5-6 more years, or until we find someplace to settle down.

For someone who is active and adventurous like yourself, they are just about the perfect dog in my opinion. While being a fairly independent breed, they are very smart and will learn just about everything you try to teach them. It's funny...after the Pointer won best of show at the Westminster, there was this mass PSA going around on social media basically warning people what they'd be getting themselves into if they were to get a GSP, in hopes of deterring irresponsible individuals from getting them and then ditching them...I just had to laugh, because while I exercise the dogs, they aren't going to be these little Tasmanian Devils that tear your house apart. I exercise mine because they love it and it makes them happy, and me as well. But if I let them, they'll sleep all damn day long! And 90% of the people who come up and talk to me about them ask me if I hunt with them. I do, but there is just so much more to these dogs than them just being good hunting dogs.

As far as Prinsu goes, I really just think he has a baseline idea for his racks that obviously translate over fairly well to other models, but he doesn't take the time to iron out the differences in the product from one model to the other. That's where I'm sure you'll fix that yourself. He was "building" my rack for the better part of a year...you think he'd have the 3rd Gen 4Runner down by now!

As far as Prinsu goes, I really just think he has a baseline idea for his racks that obviously translate over fairly well to other models, but he doesn't take the time to iron out the differences in the product from one model to the other. That's where I'm sure you'll fix that yourself. He was "building" my rack for the better part of a year...you think he'd have the 3rd Gen 4Runner down by now!

Even my Weim was pretty relaxed until you got him in the yard. He seemed to know the house time was down time.

I think he must have ran into more issues with the 3rd Gen rack's, or lied to me about the one he sold me. While it does fit it's a bit too wide for it. Or maybe it's just not my taste. I'll come up with something that works, and hopefully drop it some so it sits a bit closer to the roof.

[MENTION=98153]MStudt[/MENTION] I think it'll be hard to get a rack with modular sides like the Prinsu to sit much lower... Using square and round tubing my rack sits 1/2" off the roof at the closest point. My tent will be 1-1/2" off the roof.

I stood on the center of my center most cross bar and bounced around. With 205lbs bouncing on the center it did not flex at all. I did fall though.

Also [MENTION=98153]MStudt[/MENTION]. My pointer is freaking NUTS. 57lbs of solid muscle and raw energy. However, at home she sleeps probably 18 hours a day. She gets wild around breakfast and dinner (or if she needs to poop), but is a great dog otherwise.

I've got about an inch to drop down, and about 1/4" after that till roof contact. I'm going to ditch his rack all together though. I'll use it for mock up purposes, but that's about it. We'll see what happens, just need to get some materials to build one from wood first.

Couple updates on both rigs...

Installed a 14" Magnaflow(thanks [MENTION=56396]Hepar[/MENTION]) on the 3rd Gen. Decided that I wanted a more aggressive exhaust note to go with my aggressive looking truck. I had the shop redo the tail pipe as well. They shortened it a bit and tucked it up pretty high under the bumper. I like the way it came out. The muffler is a tad loud for my taste, but it doesn't drone on the highway and that was what I was most concerned with.

I just put in a bunch of pretty cool (I think) plates and most of them were available. People are missing out.

Had the semi-annual detail done on the rig today. Still cleans up pretty nice. Some people think it's a little redundant getting your off-road rig detailed as it's just going to be used and abused, but for an almost 20 year old vehicle, I think I've done a pretty good job of keeping it clean and in good condition. I use and abuse my vehicle, but I always take the time to clean it up and get it looking pretty again.

Well, having a good pressure washer helps, getting all the dirt and grim out of the engine bay, wheel wells, all the cracks and door jambs. The truck usually get a good buff and wax a couple times a year. Most of the pin striping I get from branches and stuff usually buffs out. I was it regularly to maintain.
