Actaully, HID is not a new technology, GE invented the HID bulb almost 50 years ago. I think that even the ABS brakes on the 4runner is newer in technology wise.
The last 4 -5 posts were exactly what I was thinking. Ever since you joined this forum, it has been one thing after another about what could be different. You have more posts in the last month than I do total and they have all been about this 07 4runner thats not even out. WHO CARES. Just wait until the 07 comes out and then post, or buy an 06. How in the hell do we know for sure what is on the 07 until it is here. You can learn a lot more when it is in your driveway than when it is in partial production in Japan!

Before this gets out of hand, let's not start jumping on the guy and run him off. This isn't and wasn't my intention.
I know everyone has their own tastes in cars and some even like to modify it to personalize it and/or make it more functional. This is as much a hobby for me as it is my transportation. We're all here to share the wealth of knowledge with other 4runner owners or enthusiasts.
Now the problem DID NOT started with you (07runner) pointing out features and equipment you didn't like on the current generation 4runners but by the way you expressed how you felt about it. It was almost immature and definitely insulting since you don't own one and we do. You come off as very abrasive and not very likable. Let's try this again...

I find the headlights to be excellent, especially after putting in Silverstar bulbs. They light up the road as well as most other cars I've been in, including HID equiped cars. One downside to HIDs coming from the factory on a car is that they're targets for theft. My friend bought an Audi S4 a few years ago and his headlights were stolen. One of my best friend's wife just bought a RX330 and her headlights were taken too. These are just 2 examples but it's much more common than you think. I'll stick with the old school halogens.

As has been said before, the trend Toyota follows is to NOT have HIDs on their larger SUVs. The Lexus RX330 is the biggest Toyota vehicle with HIDs offered. True, other manufacturers have HIDs on their large SUVs, but if Toyota doesn't do it now, the odds they'll do it in 07 are unlikely. From a marketing standpoint, they'd be wiser to wait until the redesign in a few years. That will produce more interest in the NEW 4Runner and will bring in customers that aren't already biased and decided on Toyota like we are. The projector halogens in the 06 are new this year, so they'll probably stay with those until the end of this design run. If the current headlights are an issue, it is very easy to add HIDs to the new projectors. This costs about $400 and there is plenty of information already posted on how to do it and what peoples' impressions are.
As for 07runner's comments... I think we're all just getting a little overwhelmed. Lots of posts and some upset people, which is not common for our forum. 07Runner, please realize this is a tight-knit group of enthusiasts who have a wide knowledge base. We don't claim to be rocket scientists, but we do share what we know to help each other out.
As for your many posts, we're trying to respond to all of your questions as best we can. Unfortunately, sometimes your posts appear to be written with a hint of arrogance or undue criticism, which causes some resentment. Keep in mind that most of us ALREADY OWN a 4Runner and respond to your topics with personal knowledge or educated opinions. When you critique Toyota's current design or make comments about how uneducated we are, you're simply not going to be welcomed with open arms.
Every vehicle has good and bad attributes. For most of us, we're here to make improvements where the manufacturer left off. Everyone on this forum has something to add about aftermarket parts and current technology. With all this information, you should have no problem figuring out how to buy a 4Runner for a good price, maintain it with the best techniques, and add anything from NAV to HIDs to rock sliders to make it your own personal ride. Whatever you need, we're here to help.
If you've already made your mind up on an 07, that's great. If you want to go repaint it after you drive it off the lot, that's fine too. As long as you're happy with your vehicle, we're happy. Just try to tone it down a bit when responding to those who are trying to help YOU. There is a great deal of valuable information and many great people here, but we have to be respectful and openminded for the forum to work.
I joined this forum in September with the same purpose as you... to research the 4Runner and investigate common topics and upgrade options. Yesterday I bought my first 4Runner and couldn't be happier. I already have HIDs ready to be installed and dual exhaust being shipped as we speak. My choices were made after consulting with friends made on this forum. From my experiences so far, I've found the level of information and helpfulness on this forum to be much higher than other forums on the internet. I'm proud to be a member and I'm sure others probably feel the same.

I posted what I posted above because of his comment of the forum being uneducated. Uneducated based on not buying a vehicle with HIDs. That insults not only me, but members of the forum. Members that I find to be very smart, helpful, and like a family.
07runner, don't take my post the wrong way. I didn't intend it to be something that would have you leave the forum. We are here to help.
I do, however, have to agree with Bobby with the way you have expressed your dislike. You may find that you like the projectors, even with the halogen lighting. Granted, a lot of us here would like to have HIDs. Just one of those things. And from a standpoint, I can see the safety standpoint. New innovations with lighting are being engineered. I'm sure they're improving HIDs, working on other ways of lighting. And I'm sure they're working on how to produce less glare, especially for trucks and SUVs.
But with that, given your comment that I quoted in my post, I had to point some things out. I think the comment was uncalled for, especially to a forum that wants to help you, an educated forum at that. I'm a member of a lot of other forums as well, and T4R.org is definitely one of the smartest I belong to.
We all have our dislikes, even about the 4runner. And we all have our questions for the forum. But insulting the group that wants to help you, that's where I had to say something.

The best "out of the box" car out there is the Corvette Z06.
My 04' had 405hp, 405 Ft. lbs of TQ weighed 3150lbs, cornered at 1.06g , did 0-60 in 4.2 seconds, and stopped from 60-0 in 108 ft.
All bone stock, for $45,000 (including rebates and 0% APR for 60 mths.)
Then my wife & I had a baby, and everything changed (For the better)
But I still miss driving the Z

I'll tell you what though, if I had money to burn, my top 2 sports car choices would be the 06' Z06 and the Ferrari F430 and they would both be in my garage.

TRZ06... good choices on the cars, but I have to say I'll be waiting for ya when I hit my lotto numbers and head to Germany to take delivery of the Porsche Carrera Turbo.
