I passed it a year and a half ago. The test is multiple choice and how hard it is depends on your preparation I guess. I took a weekend crash course - go through all the material Saturday, review Sunday morning, write Sunday afternoon - and I managed to get my Basic+ which allows me to use HF frequencies. I hadn't done any other studying, but the instructor kept saying things like "this would be a good thing to memorize for the test" as we were going through the material so I just reviewed those things the night before the test.
If you have any electronics/electrical background it might help as a lot of the theory crosses over, including a bunch of block diagrams and some formulas on the test.
