Hard Starts - Quick Question

Did a quick google search ...after crawling through two whole pages of results abandoned my effort.

Any preferred timeframe / upgrades for batteries? As I've mentioned in recent threads, I think I'm starting to approach standard replacement window for a lot of the consumables (70k mi / 2yrs). The 4Runner has started to balk at starting on the colder mornings (@7k ft elevation) It's still starting but I'd rather stay ahead of any problems.

Any preferred brands / models I could pick up from any major auto parts store?

2 years seems a little early for a battery replacement but if you are having trouble turning the engine over there's no reason not to. Better to replace it a little early than wait and get stuck somewhere with a dead battery.

If you are in a cold area you could also consider installing an engine block heater. Costs about $50 for the OEM Toyota one and you can install it yourself in an hour if you are willing to crawl around under the truck (don't need to drain the coolant or anything). A block heater will do a lot to take the edge off cold starts in freezing temps. Not sure if there is an official Toyota policy for when to use a block heater but I use mine when it gets under about 10 °F. For temps in the 20-30s °F it's really not necessary although it does get the cabin warmed up sooner.
