Hard to find Specs, Info & Measurements on 231mm 13WL Tundra Calipers & Rotors

Does anyone know if 231 mm calipers will fit with these 16”x7” TRD PRO wheels? Bought the 199 mm because I was worried the 231’s wouldn’t fit. Thanks!

I used this thread as a reference when installing my tundra brakes today. Such a wealth of information when ordering parts and ultimately installing them!

I used this package from amazon:https://www.amazon.com/Power-Stop-K...9713413&sr=1-8&keywords=power+stop+z36+tundra

The parts seem to be of good quality as others have noted in reviews.

Compared to stock:

The only problem with the install was removing the stock rotors that were seized on to the truck with ungodly force. Resorted to using a nut/bolt through the caliper mounting holes to force them off from the back.

All mounted up and bled.

I haven't seen anyone else running this wheel, but in case anyone is wondering, American Racing Victor Teflon wheels (16 inch) clear the larger calipers with plenty of room to spare.

First impressions driving after bedding in the pads are good. The brakes seem to bite well and stopping occurs with no shuddering- such a great feeling after becoming used to the warped stock brakes on mountain roads.

The red calipers are growing on me too.

Are these kits 199's or 231's. for the price its not bad for new equipment. Id like to know how the color is holding up after driving since you have had them for a while now?

Thanks

This kit has the 231’s. The color is holding up just fine so far apart from the brake dust that these pads generate. I don’t drive this truck full time so I haven’t put too many miles on them but I’m happy with them so far after the limited mountain driving that I have put them through.

getting all my parts together for a major front end upgrade for suspension and bushings. The last thing on my list is the TBU. But before i pull the trigger and start ordering everything does anyone know if the 231mm will clear a set up KMC XD Enduro 16x8 wheels? Will post pic once I find a decent side shot.

I have the trail wheels on my 3rd gen. They are from an 18 but i was curious if they would allow for this upgrade? I read as much as i could but lets be honest, 69 pages is a lot ha ha

After reading a bunch of these posts and since I have a 2000 limited I'm going to end up going with the 199mm brake upgrade. I don't want to have any of the ABS issues.

What a great thread. I just got my 2000 T4R a few weeks ago and really have two complaints:

It's slow as hell (not much I can do for what I care to spend)
and brakes. It seems to have very weak brakes and a looooong pedal travel. (I checked, MC is fine and it does it right off the bat so it's not fluid)

Can you tell me how much of an improvement the 231mm calipers are over the OEM? So far as I can tell, it's just more pad surface area. I'm contemplating running an aggressive pad with a lot of initial bite to help remedy this.

my first switch was to EBC green stuff, a bit of improvement but dusty as hell.

when it came time I went to 231's with Toyota performance pads and rotors and stainless lines and it was a noticeable improvement esp with all the mountain driving I do

I have a 2000 Limited and I have no ABS issues with the 231's. I used Powerstop reman calipers, Centric/Stoptech slotted rotors, Akebono ceramic pads, stainless lines, flushed out all brake fluid with new regular parts store dot3/4, performed a brake pad bed-in procedure and she stops really well....

Hi everyone -- also asking about wheel fitment. I purchased all the parts for the 231 TBU, and I have American Racing AR23 16x8 wheels. Hope to tackle this project next weekend with a friend. I tried to do my due diligence and search through the thread but didn't see anything. I also spec'd out the same wheels to see if they'd fit on a 2005 Tundra 4x4 on Tire Rack -- according to the site those wheels are compatible with that truck (and ostensibly those brakes), but of course it'd be great if anyone here has first-hand experience with these wheels. Thanks in advance!

P.S. Backspacing is listed as 4.5", lip size listed as 1.2", if that helps.

BigFishAllDay,

Sorry for asking this, but I honestly don’t feel like reading through all 1K posts on this thread.

Did you have issues with the mounting bolts?

When I did my upgrade, the bolts were maybe 1/8” too long. As in, they didn’t hold the caliper all the way against the spindle.

Did you run into this issue, or has anyone else?

No need to read through 1K posts, the info is in post #2. See below... I had no issues and re-used the stock 17mm mounting bolts. Someone must have replaced yours with non-OE hardware at some point.

I wanted to check on another 231mm caliper specification that nobody ever really mentions. The two 17MM bolts that hold the caliper on are CRITICAL BOLTS and I wanted to make sure that they still got sufficient thread engagement with the 231mm calipers. I mounted the caliper without the rotor or the pads so that I could take a look at how far these bolts thread into the mounting holes.

Top bolt... That's got plenty of grab!

Bottom bolt, Looking GOOD!

How do you like this kit? I was looking at it also but I can get a great deal through the shop at AZ for all the same parts for about 180 bucks. SO yeah....

Let me know how you like this.

Old post but thanks for all the detail

Thanks for all the detail on this BFAD. Not sure how often this thread is still getting looked at but it helped me out a lot.

Just wanted to add some info, with respect to OEM wheels that fit. I'm running what I believe to be (not 100% sure as the PO had them mounted) 2001 Sequoia wheels, they clear the 13WL calipers no problem.

I decided to go with the Power Stop Performance Caliper, Rotor, & Brake Pad Kit. Part Number PWRKC2324. Worked out awesome.

Thank you

Wow. I just did this upgrade last weekend, had zero trips to the emergency room, zero emergency trips to the parts or tool store, stayed within the planned budget, and got done with it in half the time I allotted. This is very uncharacteristic of how my car projects go. Why? Because some kind angel from heaven decided to do the best, simplest to understand, most thorough and detailed write up EVER IN THE HISTORYY OF THE INTERNET to guide my way. THANK YOU!

I bought the parts recommended by you from the suppliers you mentioned, and made sure to get the tools you recommended, and just followed your easy to understand step by step instructions and links.

One small update, the shim kit part number from Toyota has changed. It is now 04945 - 0C030.

Thank you again. Awesome write up.
