Hard to find Specs, Info & Measurements on 231mm 13WL Tundra Calipers & Rotors

No. Looking at the wheels that are said to fit and comparing their offset with the sr wheels, it looks like they would but im not 100% certain.

I might have missed it somewhere but will 231mm work with these rims? Also, does anyone know what these rims came off of? They were already on this 4runner when I bought it a few months ago.

Did you ever find out where these came from? I have the same rims on a 2005 Tacoma Prerunner and I am trying to find out more about them as well.

TBU Upgrade Write-up

Excellent write-up!

On my list to do this summer. I priced everything with AutoZone & after taxes the total is $497.24, with a refundable core charge of $40 per caliper, bringing the total price to $417.24.

Didn't find it in the search of this thread, but Method Race 301 fits over the 231 Tundra brakes just fine, no issues. Looks nice too against the red calipers

I think I already know the answer but, I want to make sure. Do the 16" 3rd Gen Split 3-Spoke Wheels fit the 231MM 13WL Tundra brake upgrade? FYI, the pictures did not work for me either.

Interesting observation re the size of the 199 pads and the 231 pads being the same (see post #1138). I would guess the 231mm rotor would dissipate the heat better since it has more area and mass. I have the 16" 3rd Gen split 3 spoke wheels which I don't think will fit with the 231mm upgrade. So, the 199's may be my only option assuming I don't upgrade my wheels. In any event, if you want more stopping power, your not towing anything, and you have a RWD 4Runner like I have that weighs less than the 4WD then I would think the 199's would be fine. In my case I'm not sure how much extra stopping power I'm going to get with the 231's over the 199's. I mean 4mm doesn't seem like much. Like I said I think the main benefit of the 231's over the 199's is the bigger rotor not so much the caliper especially given your observation re the pads.

231's and 199's both use the same Tundra rotors, only the calipers are different.

Question about brake pads

First, thanks to OP for an awesome write up on the TBU. I'm just getting ready to do the upgrade on my 1998 4runner, so I'm trying to narrow down parts. I came across these brake pads:

2006 Toyota Sequoia Trd performance brake pads. Stopping - PTR0989110 | Toyota, Gladstone OR

It says they fit 2003-2007 Sequoia but not a Tundra. Am I missing something? Aren't they both 13WL Calipers? Also, are the "TRD performance pads" worth the increased cost? Thanks for the help!

That's a solid price for that kit. I've not seen that one before but those are indeed the rotors and calipers you want. P.S. you can send your old 4Runner calipers back as cores... I might have done that with my Rockauto calipers...

The pads are so-so since they are chamfered but not terribly by any means. It's the thicker rotors that help the most.

Not sure on your line of questions. I’ve not seen a steel 16” spare not fit, so thinking you may have the 15” wheels??

Not positive on the “flower” wheel but assume it’s the one that came on Tacoma’s, Sequioa’s, ect. 16”?
Yes that wheel, and I assume all others, will fit under on the spare carrier.
265/75R16 is about the largest tire that will fit.

I've never heard of someone doing that swap. You could always pull the existing calipers and rotors and comparing.

The 16 inch 3 spoke wont fit the 231, but what i want to know is if it will fit with a spacer. I cant seem to find any info on this wheel with 231 and spacer combo.
