Has Anyone Cut Off Resonator?

Thanks for the info. I'm not going to cut mine off just yet if there will be little or no difference. I'll have to shop around and find the right aftermarket exhaust for me. I like the extra noise when I get on the gas, but don't want any or much drone when cruising. I'll look into the flowmaster 50 series (cheap) and if all else fails Borla exhaust but it will be costly.

Do you have the V6 or V8?

I've got the V6 with resonator removed and a (EDIT) Dynomax muffler....

You still have the sulfur smell? You have the same year and model and my sulfur smell was looong gone in 2005.

yes i do.. i smell it when the back window is down and i accellerate

sorry to drag up an old thread, but i'm looking to make my 08 a side exhaust solely to enjoy the rear window more. on my past runners you could open the rear window with the front windows down and that air flow was awesome, you can do the same with the 4th gen...just with that great addition of smell. has any one done this on the V8? i saw where someone removed the muffler and resonator, but i'm not looking to be loud, just want to enjoy the window. any thoughts?

just do it and keep the old resonator if you are worried....(you can always have it welded back on)

when you do it though....you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner!

The shop over here charged me about 40 bucks and it was done quickly.......I have heard others at different shops say that they have been charged upwards of 70 bucks....depends I guess on the demand...just don't let them take advantage...

they should cut off the resonator...weld on a 90 or whatever custom thing you want and a j-hook and you will be wondering why you ever waited to do it!!! Enjoy the extra departure angle!

I think cutting is great, cheap mod. As others have said, the smell is much less, the angle of departure is improved and there's virtually no difference in noise. Click on the tailpipe mod link in my sig for more.

you guys talked me into it. found a local muffler shop with classic cars and dragsters in the parking lot...thought they might have an idea about what they were doing. $40 later, this is what i have. i think it looks great with very little, if any sound difference. could be just a little more throaty sitting at idle

Looks good:bigok: The tip looks good, that couldn't have been included in the $40.

ery, very much so. i got a slight hint of the smell getting on the highway going up an on ramp at full throttle. other than that, there is no smell, at all. drove about 20 miles home speeds between 80 mph and 20 mph, no smell. i couldn't be happier with the way it turned out.

i did have them reuse the stock valor tip. i just didn't see paying more money for a chrome tipped exhaust when i could reuse the stock stainless tip.

I have cut mine out along with the muffler i put a bullet in place of the muffler and here is what it looks like coming out the back.

I also ended up cutting the resonator off when I had my magnaflow installed...then put the factory exhaust back on minus the resonator. The shop routed the tailpipe to the side at a bit of an angle that looks great, even salvaged the old tip and welded it in place. I can tell a SLIGHT difference in noise, although not enough to really tell unless you're listening at idle. Anyone else thinking of doing it, go for it, you'll be glad you did!
