I have a '23 Limited and don't understand why you can't lock the doors with the fob outside of the truck with the engine running. My '12 Grand Cherokee will let you do it but no luck with the 4Runner.

Push the electric door lock button on the drivers door, the vehicle will lock all doors and then automatically unlock the driver door. Manually push the lock by the drivers doors handle, close door, vehicle is locked.
Edited to add: This is a safety feature to prevent people from locking themselves out of their vehicle. With keyless fobs, it's quite common to leave the fob in a cupholder while driving, so this feature prevents them from being locked out should they forget to grab the fob and lock the door with the electric switch on the door.
