Has anyone gone from 4Runner to Sequoia or Vice Versa

Hello all,
I did some searching first. Found some people who have done it. Just wondering if I could here from some more people. I'm looking at either a 5th gen 4Runner or a 2nd Gen sequoia. I haven't ruled out Land Cruisers but affordable good ones are hard to come by.

We're a family of four. Do a good amount of road trips. I've had a 4Runner and found that they fill up quickly. I could always add a pod or roof rack tho. The space in the sequoia is great but it's huge. Harder to park in urban areas and bad gas mileage.
Anyone go from one to the other or choose one over the other?

I do not currently have a 4Runner. Sold the one in the pic a while ago. Looking at getting back into an SUV.

Apples and oranges. Like asking people if they go from a Tacoma to a Tundra. Lot's do because they need more power, room, etc. They also get worse efficiency, bigger footprint, harder to park, etc.

I disagree. People cross shop the two all the time. True there are obvious differences but I want to hear from the people who got them. What I'm asking is if anyone went from one to other and the reasons why.

You can disagree all you want but the fact is they are in different classes. I cross shopped a Tundra and a 4Runner several years ago. Why? Because they were both appealing to me for different reasons.

The fact:
1. Sequoia had a bigger engine
2. Is heavier
3. Gets worse gas mileage
4. Less maneuverable on trail or in parking lot
5. Has more interior room
6. Has more power
7. Higher tow rating
8. The biggie... does not have a rear roll down hatch window.

So you can make it about whatever you want but the bullets above are the facts. They are in two different classes. Want more room? Need more power? Get a Sequoia. Want more efficiency? Need less room? Only want to tow a little trailer? Get a 4Runner. It's not that complicated.

You should get a Sequoia. With a family of 4, a 4runner will be a bit tighter than you'd maybe like with all your stuff along. And let's make the assumption you haven't chopped off your willy, and your family could also get a little larger. (Plan ahead, folks!) Also, your current little guys are going to get bigger and they will appreciate the legroom in the future. You could also then get one of those tents that's a roof rack that you sleep on top of it (Those are sweet) Since you'll have more space in the back for your things. A Sequoia will just most likely be a better experience for everyone in your family :thumb3:

I went from a land Cruiser to a Lexus lx and now to a 2016 Limited 4runner. Upside is the size for being in town and gas mileage. I went with the limited b/c the 2016 had a lot of the same features my 2008 Lexus had on it as well as all wheel drive. We are a family of 4 and I use a thule roof box when we travel.

Downside: I pull a Mastercraft ski boat during the summer. I don't drag it too far so not a huge problem. I do miss the V8 sometimes. The lighter weight and narrower footprint took a little getting use to. Cargo space is less but the Lexus seats were not removable as in earlier years and took up a lot of space.

Overall I am impressed with the 4runner.

How much does you MC weight? I have a 2014 x10 and boat weight is at the max range of T4R

Go for the Sequoia!

On our road trips the ex-wife would pack everything but the kitchen sink so we would run out of room very quickly and it was just the three of us plus a small dog. I did buy a PVC roof bag that held 15 cubic feet which helped. At one point I was going to buy a rear cargo deck to help. After a few trips, I always thought I should have bought a Sequoia for the extra room. Since your a family of 4, you should get the Sequoia and that way you don't have to worry about space. Plus, you can always get a roof rack or rear cargo deck for additional space. Good luck and happy hunting!

After looking around for a 4th Gen 4Runner for a few months I looked at similarly equipped Sequoias (V8, 4WD) of similar years and was shocked to find the Sequoias uniformly several thousand dollars cheaper. It's as if the "cult factor" that raises the asking price of 4Runners so far above the KBB value is entirely absent in Sequoias.

While a 4Runner is a better size for me I could occasionally use more space and with so much better bargains out there a Sequoia is starting to look like an ever more compelling alternative.

I've driven a couple of sequoias, and I will say that they feel like cars in stock form..

I've also heard that they perform quite well offroad for a family rig that size.

So, two different vehicles for two different uses. As a single guy, I like the compactness/economy of the 'runner but can see why some want the room the Sequoia gives.

Drive both and you should know what will be needed. They are that different.

I think some folks over on expeditionportal have built up Sequoias using Tundra parts. Not nearly as common a starting platform as the 4Runner and not much in the way of aftermarket parts, but doable.
