Has anyone installed a Metra whip antenna?

My motorized unit was DOA the day I bought the truck. I know I can do the Tacoma whip mod at a considerable price, but I also found the Metra 44-TY23 that looks like it would be a pretty OEM fit:

Anyone ever install one of these?

I wouldn't

I used to install car audio in a previous life and never had good luck with aftermarket products like antennas.
I would just spend the $100 and do it right.
